CBS NEWS IS ILLITERATE! SPELLING COUNTS!!

Posted on 10/16/2006 6:14:00 PM PDT by Nadd

I was just glancing at the CBS News website and noticed a ridiculous mis-spelling on a piece of pure LIBERAL SPINach. Take a look at this and show a lefty friend.

I thought for the longest time that you had to at least be literate to graduate from Journalism school ... ?

TOPICS:

A misspelled word is forgivable.

What is unforgivable?...Remaining mute about Clinton opening the oil reserves in an attempt to sway the election to Algore.

Affect as a verb means to influence, effect as a verb means to accomplish a goal, e.g. "effect a change".

Effect as a noun is what you think it is, affect as a noun is a psychological term.

Even educated and literate people can make this common mistake, but still, it's always fun to see the pretentious hoisted on their own petard.

It's not a misspelling, it's a misused word. It's an annoying, but not especially egregious example. Then/than, there/their/they're and our/are bother me far more than this.

I'm a lot more irritated about when I do it. Tonight I posted a "you're" in the place of "your".

My pet peeve is when "loose" is used for "lose."

The Democrats will loose their seats in this election.

After listening to one more democonspiracy theory tonight I did ask how she could dump that big of a load of crap without hurting herself.

Freeping doesn't count. It's like a freshman term paper, at best.

It'll be a major, progressive pantload, for sure.

Mine is def-in-ate-ly (definately) when the word is pronounced def-in-it-ly and spelled definitely. Life is such a struggle to get through.

Definitely!

What do you think of seperate versus separate?

More pet peeves - I also don't like to hear that someone "went missing." That seemed to start up a few years ago. What ever happened to the simple "is missing?" Also, when did harrassment become pronounced "harris-ment" and divisive "di-vissive?"

Uuuggggghhhh!

"harris-ment" is the one that I've noticed also. It will always be ha-rass-ment to me. The others you mentioned I haven't noticed.

The new one I've noticed lately on an ad saying "real-tors" instead of "real-ters" which actually the way they pronounce it is correct according to the spelling.

My biggest pet peeves are here on FR where posters think it is so clever to absolutely pound something into postively mundane inaneness (?)haha like "It's Bush's fault". There are too many to count. Drives me nuts.
