FORT MEYERS, Fla. - A pit bull who was recently adopted by a family after wondering onto a construction site may have saved a teen girl from a house fire on Friday.
Jerrica Seals, 17, was already safely out of the house by the time firefighters arrived, the News-Press of Fort Meyers reported.
"She called me screaming," said Leticia Vega, 36, the sister of Seals' boyfriend Javier Garcia, 23, who owns the home. "She said the dog woke her up barking, jumped on the bed and bit her on the leg."
Seals was taken to the hospital for a checkup, but Garcia said she was going to be fine.
Deputy fire Chief Steve Clyatt said blaze appears to have been caused by a bad extension cord on a window air conditioner.
Vega said her oldest brother, Gabriel Garcia, found the dog while he was working.
"He didn't pay no mind to it," Vega said. "He just kept working and the dog just stayed there so he brought it home. He doesn't usually bark. He's real friendly."

Rights, farms, environment ping.Let me know if you wish to be added or removed from this list.I don't get offended if you want to be removed.
When pit bulls are registered, only ... never mind.
... and then eating her.
(Joke. Joke, people. CHILL.) :)
Yes, well, I am trying to find an inexpensive way to ship a young Pit from No. Nevada to Washington so that it can be adopted.
It's in need of a new home due to being against the former owners lease.
There is a couple in WA who want it badly, they own their home free and clear, so no lease issues.
I need to get this done before I give in and keep it for myself.
I already have hounds, and kind of swore not to take in any more dogs after losing two to old age last year.
But this one is so damn smart and friendly.........
Properly socialized and obedient pit bulls are fine dogs. Too many are unloved. Many are tormented by humans.
Trying to make a weapon out of dog is very low down indeed. To turn love into hate. Vile.
Have you tried this yet?

Deputy fire Chief Steve Clyatt said blaze appears to have been caused by a bad extension cord on a window air conditioner. Further investigation revealed that the cord had been chewed by the pit bull. Clyatt speculates the dog was trying to set up a scene to make himself look like a hero. The pit bull has been arrested for arson and endangering human life.
BTTT
Contact these people and see if they have a "doggy railroad" network of volunteers who will relay-drive dogs from one state to another.

I know the Ibizan Hound Rescue has such a 'railroad'.
I'll wager the dog even threw some hickory logs in hoping they would impart a sweet, smokey flavor.
Those pits are just PLAIN evil. ;-)
I have to admit, I had to chuckle when I read the dog bit her on the leg to awake her. My immediate thought was, well, at least it went for the leg rather than the throat.
I was thinking the exact same thing, and it was funny.
I wander what the dog was thinking when it did that?
I'll give it a shot...
"She said the dog woke her up barking, jumped on the bed and bit her on the leg.
"Lassie, she ain't!
The best smoke and fire detector you can have in your house is a dog or cat.
reportedly the dog waited until the leg was well done before biting her, afterwards the pit bull proceeded to eat everyone in the surrounding county.

Golden agers welcome a pit bull with a heart of gold
Ruby was a big hit at a Bayport nursing home Tuesday morning, nuzzling and licking faces, doing a few tricks and climbing onto laps. The folks all said they'd never seen a calmer, gentler or more patient dog -- which might come as a surprise to some, because Ruby is a pit bull.
Owner Pat Bettendorf of Scandia said Ruby is a certified therapy dog rescued from abuse three years ago. She has a heart of gold, said Bettendorf, who's very supportive of her breed.
"Pit bulls have been maligned because they're misused by bad people," he said. "In the early 20th century they were considered the top family dog, good with kids."
Residents at the Croixdale home in Bayport enjoy Ruby's visits, said activities director Mary Jo Ducklow. "Petting a dog has a real calming effect," she said. "The residents smile and relax with Ruby in the room."
You should start a ping list with that picture. If you do, I'll join.
One of the true American breeds, the full name of the breed, American Pitbull Terrier.
I still say pit pulls should be bred out of existence, or shipped to NK for food.
I say the dog was attacking her.
There just HAPPENED to be a fire going on.
The two incidents are not related....:-)
/sarcasm
Well, he did bite the girl on the leg... I'll bet he damn near ripped her leg off! KILL THE EVIL PIT BULL!!!!!!!

No offense FRiend but to ascribe evil to dogs or their actions
takes you far beyond the realm of extremely extreme extremism.

If anyone knows, these folks do.
Teen accused of feeding kittens to pit bull
"An 18-year-old Dallas man faces cruelty charges after he was accused of slamming kittens to the ground and kicking them toward a snarling pit bull, which tore them apart.
~snip~
They saw the suspect "taking kittens from a blue plastic box and violently throwing them on the ground."
They then saw the man "kicking the kittens towards a brown and white spotted pit bull, who was tearing the kittens apart with its mouth," the report says.
The people in the car yelled at the suspect to stop the maulings.
That's when a woman approached and punched the passenger in the eye, according to the report. She is apparently related to the 18-year-old."
I passed the link on to the people wanting "Dozer" (Bull Dozer).
Thanks!
I already maintain the "Another Fruitcake Ping List".
I won't forget our remarkable kanawa story :~)
Perfectly said.
I have two pits. Wouldn't have any other breed.
Someone at www.pbrc.net should be able to help you.
You had me going until the thrid sentence. That's pretty good stuff. LOL.
(CBS) WHITTIER, Calif. A 37-year-old Whittier woman and a teenage boy were arrested by Whittier police for suspicion of shoplifting at a pet store, police said. The alleged shoplifting spree occurred at a Petco at 13420 Whittier Blvd. at 3:15 p.m., said Jason Zuhlke of the Whittier Police Department.
Three people and the pit bull walked into the store and store management began monitoring them because it appeared the humans were about to do some shoplifting, Zuhlke said.
In the midst of the alleged shoplifting spree, the teenage boy with the pit bull was confronted by the manager. The suspect threw a doggie ball at him and threatened him with bodily harm. The manager backed off as the trio made off with various merchandise, Zuhlke said.
The pit bull was on its best behavior, not causing any problems, Zuhlke said.
The manager observed the license plate number of the vehicle the suspects fled in and later a Whittier police sergeant tracked them down, Zuhlke said.
Arrested were Michelle Lynn Kuegler and the teenage boy, who were taken into custody for suspicion of robbery, Zuhlke said.
The pit bull (whose name was withheld) and a second juvenile were not arrested. The pit bull was reportedly cooperative at all times -- and it was determined the third member of the human trio was apparently not involved with the shoplifting, Zuhlke said.
It is an article about Ken Foster, author of...
"The Dogs Who Found Me: What I've Learned from Pets Who Were Left Behind"...
Click the pic for an interview with him on "Satya" site...
A couple of excerpts...
Disasters bookend his memoir as Foster talks about moving to New York right before September 11th and settling in New Orleans just in time for Hurricane Katrina. The dogs play a special role in helping him get through these times...."...after the hurricane, 62 percent of all animals rescued were pit bulls. Nobody was bitten, mauled or run down by any of these dogs. There is a sense that pit bulls are inherently evil dogsmaking careful plans to attack and kill peoplewhich just isnt the case at all. Im not saying that none of them have problems, but most of their problems are created by people who have abused them or trained them to be violent.
They are actually the most playful dogsincredibly loving and bond really strongly. Many people fall into the pit bull world by accident and feel close to every pit bulllike they are a relative. They are smart, funny and do things that make me laugh. Almost all the pit bulls Ive found have been the most laid back dogs. There are a few Ive worked with who had particular issues that made them snappish, and yet if you are aware of your dogs behavior, you can address it. And if you really look, the percentage of pit bulls involved in anything bad is pretty small, because the pit bull population is actually pretty huge. To characterize them by the way they look, as all dogs that look this way are bad or dangerous, doesnt make people safer, doesnt make the dogs safer, and it doesnt address the actual problemwhich is a problem of people."
No offense, but you apparently don't understand the meaning of the word evil and/or you don't understand plain English.
Since evil can simply mean "causing ruin, injury, or pain; harmful" (e.g., the evil effects of a poor diet), the phrase evil deeds can be taken to mean acts causing injury.
For the record, I oppose breed bans.
