Magazine Scam Thousand Names Troll Scam ZOTTED again

Posted on 09/04/2006 10:23:50 AM PDT by Gomer Pile

Have any of you had any dealings with "Mags-R-Us", where they have people going door to door claiming to be selling magazines to earn "points' to attend college or something along those lines? I have, and it`s a scam!!! One day, there came a knock on my door. It was a young male and he gave me a sales pitch just like I described. The deal sounded pretty good pricewise, so I ordered a couple subscriptions from him and gave him a check for $24.95. A couple hours later though I changed my mind and called the bank to have a stop payment put on the check. When I checked my bank account online a couple days later, the check had gone through! I called the bank asking, "How did it go through even though a stop payment was put on it?" She exlpained that the check must have been "electronically" deposited by the person and that even a stop payment would not have prevented it. That dude sure didn`t waste any time!!! Well, I went to the BBB website and reported the company to them, telling them what happened, and to look into getting a refund from these guys. I got a letter from Mags-R-US saying they do not issue refunds under $25.00. (Remember, I gave them $24.95.) Instead, they offered me magazine subscriptions! I wrote a fiery letter back to them telling them I did not want ANY magazines and to just keep my money to put toward their legal fees because "you will sure need it!" I also told them they dodged having to refund me by one lousy nickel!!! Then I typed in "Mags-R-US" in the "Search" space and came up with several forum sites where other people have had trouble with them as well. Some never even got their magazines. Folks, if someone comes to your home like that peddling magazines or whatever for any reason, be it Mags-R-us, or whoever, DON`T FALL FOR IT! They are as crooked as the Leaning Tower of Piza out to make quick bucks by claiming to "earn points"! YEAH, RIGHT!!!

Isn't it wonderful how easy they make it to buy something and how difficult it is to get a refund? Of course it isn't just magazine sales people that get you. Buy something at Circuit City and take it back and they will even charge you tax on the restocking fee. lol
