Day 1996 photo that they believe indicates Karr was in Atlanta when the 6-year-old girl was killed in Colorado.
Gary Harris, an attorney for Karr's father, Wexford Karr, said Tuesday that the photo is of John Mark Karr's three children, along with a newborn nephew.
While John Mark Karr is not actually in the photo, family members "have no recollection of him missing a Christmas until the last five years," Harris said.
"They know that if his children were there, he would have been there," the attorney said. "They would have remembered it if they all had shown up and [John Mark Karr] had not shown up."
The nephew's presence in the photo is the basis for the family's belief that it was taken in 1996. Harris said the boy was born Dec. 11, 1996, and would have been bigger at any later Christmas gathering.
The photo, taken at Wexford Karr's home in Atlanta, was turned over to Boulder police investigators on Tuesday, Harris said. He said the family would not release the photo to the media to protect the privacy of the children in the picture.
Harris said John Mark Karr's family was living in Alabama in 1996 and had come to Atlanta for dinner on Christmas Day.
JonBenet Ramsey was killed that Christmas night in Boulder, and her body discovered the following day in the basement of the Ramseys' home.
Harris called "far-fetched" a law enforcement suggestion that Karr could have had dinner with the family, then flown to Boulder on Christmas afternoon.
"At the time this happened 10 years ago, [John Mark] Karr was living in Alabama with his family they were a unified family at that time and they had no money," Harris said. "It wasn't like he could just run out and buy a plane ticket. It doesn't make any sense."
This photo is NOTHING. It is a picture of his kids and nephew.
NO DATE
NO KARR
NO USE
Chopped off first paragraph some how...
Family members of John Mark Karr, the suspect in the slaying of JonBenet Ramsey, have found a Christmas Day 1996 photo that they believe indicates Karr was in Atlanta when the 6-year-old girl was killed in Colorado.
They could say HE took the picture!......../s
well, their family member is claiming he was there, and that he killed jonbonet.
but really... its christmas, and they have no picture of him with the family? i have got to be in atleast 100 different pictures during christmas.
Where is the picture of John, Lara, and the boys sitting on the couch -- you know the one that is taken at EVERY family gathering.
Sorry, to me this is more damaging than no photo. A Christmas full of pictures, including pictures of his children and not a single one of him? Doesn't wash.
Well, it's better than nothing. If the family says he was there and the family was united, odds are he was there just as they said. I'm sure there's more than one Christmas that I'm not shown in any of the pictures since I'm the picture taker and avoid the front side of cameras at all costs.
I have a photo of Ann Coulter eating from a dish. Does that mean your dog wants ME?
There has not been any indication I know of that any family member is inclined to falsely alibi for this measley pervert. Chances are that his 'confession' is phoney.
OH man, too bad you don't have a picture of your cat eating from the dog's dish. That would be indicative of a Menage a Trois with Ann and Michelle Malkin.
Paging Adnan Hajj.
NO No No, that proves that Diana Irey wants me to have her love child :-)
Next time please get it right /s
But he could tool around Hamilton in a Red DELOREAN?????
This guy needs to shut up, he is doing more damage than good.
I keep asking who was supporting this guy??
She is here with me now, and says she is SOOOO over you.
Why? He snapped the photo? Bought a cheap camera that had no self timer?
I know what you mean - I avoid cameras, as well. I think the picture might at least somewhat establish where they were that Christmas. I think they would remember if there was a Christmas that they did not spend together, as this is an unusual time to be apart (assuming the family is intact). It seems like the investigators would have tried to establish whether he could have even been in Boulder at the time of the murder before doing anything else. If he wasn't there he didn't do it, though I suppose it is possible that he might know something.
"I have a photo of Ann Coulter eating from a dish. Does that mean your dog wants ME?"
Only if she is licking the dish clean.
Agreed.
The Boulder D.A. had better have had more solid evidence to arrest this guy on other than his "confession."
Definitely.
LOL!!
BTW, Ann's sitting on my lap and she thinks it's funny, too....;^)
....HAVE NO RECOLLECTION OF is NOT a defense...it's a hillary clinton line.
Why are we all guessing? Just wait until the DNA comes back. If it's a match, all of us (but one) can go home.
I believe I read elsewhere that his wife has said she "loathes" him.
Exactly. The proof thing works both ways, which is why I am playing Devil's Advocate on this thread.
Just as the Boulder DA has to show Motive AND Opportunity -- IE Prove Karr was in Boulder, the defense must prove he is not there if there is evidence he was.
In a court of law this photo means nothing and proves nothing.
It's only use would be to raise reasonable doubt if all the DA can present is circumstantial evidence, but it is in no way exculpatory at all.
I think we better keep an eye on you.
FOTFLOL!
His family is just trying to make sense of things, given what they know.
If he really did it and he really wants everyone to know, why didn't he turn himself in on Day 1?
LOL --- could be my Pug, Jack.
It's very strange, the leaks and rumors have started, but so far no one has come forward who can put this fruitcake in Colorado at the time of the crime, nor has any document surfaced to do the same. I hope I'm wrong, but people are starting to get nervous that Boulder has screwed up again.
LOL! I think that photo is funny.
As with me. I've spent every Christmas with my family since we've been married. Except for a few were I was OCONUS and have travel vouchers to prove it. Most X'mas' with her family but a few with mine. I'd have to sit down and think real hard on where I was in what year. 1996 was in Fayetteville, first Christmas as a retired fart. I am in very, very few pictures.
The Boulder D.A. had better have had more solid evidence to arrest this guy on other than his "confession."
My understanding is the confession came after the arrest so yes they have to have something else..
It's perfect!
Hillary gave my neighbor crabs. She's never met him, but we're confident she wouldn't miss the opportunity to give crabs.
I'm still laughing! LOL!
Actually, it does do a few things even if Karr is not in the photo.
The infant nephew would verify that the photo was taken around the time in question. The presence of Karr's kids *in Atlanta* means that they went to see other family members which would add to the number of potential witnesses that could testify that they remember the trip and saw Karr in Atlanta on that Christmas day.
If they had chosen to spend a quiet Christmas at home in Alabama, just him and his family, there would be no other adult to testify to his being home other than his wife who, the prosecution could argue, might have a faulty memory or is trying to protect the accused. If there are three or four family members who recall Karr being in Atlanta that Christmas, it will be much harder for the prosecution to refute.
Keep in mind, too, that it is the prosecution that has to prove Karr was in Boulder, not the defense that has to prove he was not.
Even if they establish that Karr was far enough away from Boulder that he had to fly to get there for Christmas night, his presence on a commercial flight manifest would surely have to come next or, perhaps, proof that he rented a motel room, etc.
I know when I see my sister's family, I'm always taking pictures because of my nieces and nephew. But, when I visit my other sister's family, I often don't take pictures because they don't like having their picture taken. Some family dynamics are just that way.
I do hope the Karrs made a copy of the photo or found the negative before turning it over to BPD. Exculpatory evidence like that has a way of disappearing sometimes when a prosecutor is desperate for a conviction.
Are you in any Christmas photos? Maybe you'd better start getting in them!
However, I agree that this photo, without him in it, means NOTHING
At best, it could be something to jog the memory of other family members who would remember him there, but sending it to the Boulder Police is pointless.

If what I just wrote made you sad or angry,
it was probably just a joke.
yeah, and Karr seems to be type to avoid the camera, as well....
That's what most people are saying.
But this DA also made public statements that the CU football players caught up in the scandal were guilty of rape. Turned out she didn't even have enough evidence to file on them.
Whether he was in Boulder the night in question is key, obviously.
But if that's in doubt, the prosecutors would have to establish a nexus between Karr and Ramsey. Have you heard any thing about that? You just don't live in Alabama and pick up and fly to Colorado to randomly murder a child.
He had sons, so he probably wasn't on the beauty pageant circuit, he never lived in Colorado. How the heck did he know this kid even existed?
I wonder if his ex-wife knows more than she is saying....I remeber reading somewhere (unverified) that Karr had some pedo website and that his ex-wife knew about it and even posted there. It's possible that she and her family are trying to save their own skins.
I thought it was known that he was around the Ramsey's before they moved to Colorado..?
