Yes, I agree with you. The tech calls I've made about my laptop always connect me with someone in India who is very difficult to understand--the accent is just too thick.

The person usually can't get off the script, so my problem generally goes unresolved.

It's a shame one can't get help here in America with this company. I won't be buying again.

Oh, and ignore the critics. I like to read newbie posts/views. It's not illegal for you to speak, fortunately.

P.S. Though I sure don't agree with your wiccan views (forgot to mention that).

DING DING DING DING DING DING DING!

NO more calls, please.

We have a winner.

(Most places I've been at with heavy outsourcing either have an Indian as a C-level executive in IT, or are the chief underling to that executive.)

NO cheers, unfortunately.

Few days back, some of the folks here wanted to ban Pepsi because it was headed by an Indian hindu woman...and now this ?

Nobody here has any problems with Hindus or women. What we do have a problem with is someone who thinks the USA is a existential offense to the rest of the planet running a major American company.

Message to AmericanDragon ... FYI - you are in the USA not a Chinese Gulag. You have the RIGHT to deploy your resources anyway you wish to - don't like Dells Indian support - go and buy an iMac they recently shut down their support in India. Its that simply pal, the market rules and price is everything. Sufficient people do that, the jobs will start coming back.

Unfortunately the very jerks in this thread who bitch an moan about Indian outsourcing etc are perfectly happy (when its THEIR money) going out and buying their Dells, Toyotas and Sonys without giving a thought as where these items originate. But oooohhhhh no, should a Corporation chose to deploy its resources the best (i.e. in India) then its tantamount to treason.

US have proved that the most successful economic system in the history of this planet is American free market capitalism. As with any system there are winners and losers (AmericanDragon). That doesn't in itself though mean that the system is wrong.

AmericanDragon appears to be on an extended vacation from FR, he won't get your message.

On the topic of outsourcing - it turns out that for some things, it doesn't pay to outsource, that the costs of overcoming cultural and language barriers exceed the money saved by paying lower wages, which is why Apple and a number of other companies pulled out of operations in India. The popular myth is that outsourcing can save a lot of money, but a lot of companies found out that it was not true for them.

Of course you know this because you're the CEO of a multinational corporation who's personally witnessed his ROI decline through outsourcing functions to India?

If outsourcing cost savings are really a myth then the flow of work to India should have dried up long ago. The free-flow of information on NYSE / NASDAQ should have alerted investors to potentially reducing economic returns of Corporations that undertook such activity, thus forcing down their share-price. The market, as always takes care of everything and everyone.

But the market has not stopped outsourcing to India for nearly FIFTEEN years now. For every 1 company that pulls back, 10 are investing more after obtaining the initial cost savings. Thats the reality of it pal - the bottom line is the $ rules.

Forget Christianity, Islam, Hinduism ...

American capitalism = the greatest religion ever invented.

The case of Apple is actually not isolated but your analysis is wrong. Apple was a late starter in the outsourcing wave. They set up office in India early this year, much after every single software major had. Their strategy was also rather poor. They came to India expecting the same red carpet welcome that China gives them. Also they expected to have slave labour work away for 12 hour days with very low wages (for more on this, look up threads on Freeper about Apple's ipod factory in Guangzhou). India IS NOT China. We do not sell ourselves cheaply, and our USP is more than just low costs. A company that wants to do high-tech stuff atlower costs, keeping in mind quality and innovation will do well in India. An company that wants to exploit cheap labour better start early. If it arrives as late as it does, it better expect people to have smarted up to is games. This is pretty much what happened to Apple.

American Dragon is a cartoon show on the Disney Channel.

Somehow, I don't think that's a coincidence. Go play your Xbox and leave us adults alone.
