Giving CPR to animals can be the right thing to do in some circumstances. I know how to do it, though I've never needed to. But I didn't think there was anyone stupid enough to give CPR to a mangled deer just hit by a car.

I invited a friend of mine from Chicago to visit me in the Wisconsin northwoods, and when he was a few miles from arriving at my house he hit a deer. He told me that he stopped and got out to see how the deer was, but the poor thing was stumbling around on broken legs. As he was trying to figure out what to do, a pickup truck pulled up behind him and two men got out and ran up to the deer and one of them hit it on the head with a bat as hard as he could, killing it instantly. The two guys asked him if he wanted the carcass for himself or if they could take it home for meat and when he said he didn't want it they threw it in the truck and took off. My friend was a bit disturbed by this, but he did realize the truth; putting it out of its misery quickly was the right thing to do.

They are lucky the thing was dead or it would have kicked the crap out of them.

The detective didn’t know whether the first aid responders were locals, but speculated that they were “probably from Portland or somewhere.” He added, “they haven’t been around here much.”

This is a funny line.

I had to save my daughters chicken at the fair yesterday. She was feeding them and ran up to me and said, "Mom I think my chicken is choking, she can't swallow her water" I went over and sure enough the dumb cluck had drank some water and the feed she had been eating had swelled up and she was choking. I squeezed her neck and pushed it up and it came out. My daughter was grossed out, but mom saved the day!! LOL!!

Hey, you should have read the story I posted about a year ago, about the guy who picked a copperhead snake off the road (he was afraid it would get hit by a car) and was bit as he tried to save it.

I'll see if I can find it and repost it -- it got about a million posts it was so hilarious (a true story).

*APPLAUSE* Way to go, Mom!

And that reminds me...I need to water the chickens, LOL!

I took my neice and nephew (6 & 8) to the fair last Friday. They spent the most time in the Poultry Barn, so we know those nuts didn't fall too far from the tree! My niece Dana is absolutely crazy for chickens (and of course, horses) so I had an easy week because she did all the chicken chores for me, Sweet Girl. ;)

DH has done the same with the Box and Painted Turtles that try to cross to our side of the road from the lake across the way for some STUPID reason.

I'm pretty sure he wouldn't help a Copperhead across the road though, LOL! If so, am I still young enough to be considered a "Young Widow?" ;)

That sounds like something I would do.

Yeah, I'm the dork you see shooing critters off the road and picking up turtles to take to safety.

Chickens are minimalists...

Did you see the article about the one living without a head..

Actually it had a brainstem.

Owners poured gruel down it's goozle but it kept right on going.

Cats got into the trailer the night before the fair where we had the chickens all washed and penned up ready to go. We had one without a head the next morning. Wasn't alive though!!
