Hello, I'm the guy who wrote the original article about the two guys giving CPR to the deer in downtown Joseph, Oregon. So, it's been kind of interesting watching you folks debate the issue of the merits or demerits of providing first aid to a deer.
What struck me about the story was, on one hand, it says a lot about human nature, if one can withhold the kneejerk reaction for a moment. To go to that length to attempt to save another species says a lot.
On the other hand, the absurdity of the moment makes it easy to snicker along with the sheriff detective who arrived on the scene.
If more people carried firearms then this story wouldn't have needed to be written. Someone hits a deer, they get out of the car, dispatches the deer, problem solves. This is in some way typical of an unarmed populace.
