I was on 518 in Pearland when the white pick-up truck flew by along with probably dozens of police cars.

Now he's in a bayou and it looks like he doesn't want to come out. This old man was crazy! Did y'all see where all he was driving? Geez.

No, but found out that he stopped about 1/4 mile from my house. Traffic home will be most unpleasant.

I know this is hardly earth shattering news unless of course it is going on in and through your town. It was!

As of this minute he is still in the truck in the ditch. All roads are blocked and he may have (they suspect) been involved in several thefts.

He is surrounded by Pasadena SWAT trying to get him out of his truck.

The thing that amazes me is it must be 105 plus in the cab of this truck.

Everyone he hit seems to be fine.

I emailed that person. Didn't think that reply was necessary at all.

Police have moved everyone, including choppers, away from the area so the guy can't know the SWAT team's movement. Guy's threatening to kill himself.

It's still being carried on local news for anyone in the area who's interested.

I was unaware of the chase until I was in it. Folks nearby said the driver was really old. Anyone else heard that?

He's reportedly in his 50's. Btw, we had live coverage of it here in DFW but they finally gave up and resumed normally broadcasting.

I was just watching local news and the reporters said it looks like he was writing something on some paper. Doesn't sound like he wants to be taken into police custody.

In his mid 50's they think. He is busy writing a note right now....(suicide???) they are saying.

They are now saying that someone was hurt in one of the crashes and they are trying to find that out.

I do know several shots were fired at our local police dept when the chase came through here.

But I am praying for this jerk's family. Because they will pay a high high price for his actions.

Looks like he gave up instead of killing himself. Maybe they'll get that part of the Beltway cleared now so folks can get through.

He gave up instead of offing himself. Too chicken to off himself from the sound of it.

Ah good, glad he didn't blow brains out, but I imagine there are some commuters ready to do so.

Only took 10-15 minutes longer to get home the back way. The guy's a dumb.... They should have shot his tires out long ago.

This is the second car chase in that general area in a week. My daughter was going south on 288 at the tollway when she was passed by a car going very fast and followed by police cars. He started someplace in downtown Houston and was finally stopped about 288 and 35. These guys never get away, they are stupid to run. Being a criminal is stupid to begin with and "stupid is as stupid does".

I'm waiting for Mayor Bob-White to blame it on Katrina evacuees.

I watched the entire chase on TV. I live in SW Houston.

It was good that the TV news and radio were keeping motorists advised.

This was a dangerous situation. This suspect was endangering many innocent lives. The public SHOULD be warned when a freeway chase is underway.

To jveritas -- I wonder why you bother to read Free Republic at all? I suggest you look around for a forum which posts only "earth shattering" news and leave us alone. Or at least spare us from your narrow-minded comments.

Agree 100%, I should not post on FR because I am narrow minded. Thank you for letting me know.

There was a group of about fifteen of us at my workplace standing and watching the last thirty minutes of the chase on CNN Headline News. Most of the other folks were from India. I can only imagine what they think about us Americans after seeing that!

I think Chevy is going to want to use some of that footage in their next ad campaign. :) That pickup truck took a hell of a pounding--50+ mph across fields, golf courses, railroad tracks, 90+ mph down the freeways, and still kept going until the police got the spike-strips out.

I can't believe CNNHN dropped their normal coverage to show that chase, though. And whoever that anchorette was...ugh. Total dummy. Her two best lines that I remember:

"It's no wonder the police can't catch up to that truck, it probably has a very powerful engine in it. It's one of those extended-cab models."

And, after the guy had landed in the creek and he had about fifty cops surrounding him with guns drawn: "So, what happens now?" Durrrrrrr.
