What upsets me about the Da Vinci Code (our culture)
VANITY

Posted on 05/21/2006 6:09:31 PM PDT by se_ohio_young_conservative

It is not so much the movie (obvious fiction) as it is the new low that our society is reaching. Does anyone think that this movie would have been accepted in 1956 instead of 2006 ? There is always open season on christianity in this culture. There are millions of people going to see the movie this weekend. We assume that all of these people are smart enough to know that it is just fiction. But are they ? There are people who honestly believe that there was a 9/11 conspiracy. A JFK conspiracy. Elvis could still be living ! The world is spinning so fast right now. There is so much confusion on our planet currently. This poison in the blood stream of our culture is disgusting. and yes, it IS BLASPHEMY. Some of you may say "ahh, it is just a movie". Let me tell you that there are people who would let it factor into their view of christianity. Our society is full of dark things right now. I do not think this is good for christianity or the world.

I was going to argue but I can't think of anything similar that would have been made in the 50s or 60s.

However I like a good flick and may see it when it comes out on DVD.

There are people on this forum who seem to buy into the fiction, and defend the whacky conspiracies as the gospel truth.

I call it something other than blasphemy. I call it a religious smear.

"Blasphemy" is someone being profane towards my faith and trashing my beliefs.

This smear is designed to attack the Church as "evil" and Christians as gullible dupes.

If someone made a movie about the global Jewish conspiracy (as outlined in The Protocols of the Elders of Zion*) and played both sides of the coin claiming it is fictional (as in a fictionalized account, as ALL films are) as well as that it weaves in "real" history, we would not remain silent. I say we as Americans (I am Christian) and we have seen and CONTINUE to see this crap dredged up as justification for war (prominently now by the Islamonazis, but previously by the Aryan Nazis).

* This text is a fabrication designed as a religious smear.

"Backdoor Babes pt2" in the adult film section might be a good, well made movie, but that does not make it positive or morally healthy for someones mind.

I am talking about the social and moral affects, mostly.

Did American "outrage" at the Turkish movie "Valley of the Wolves: Iraq " improve its boxoffice (it had distribution in Germany and other Western nations)?

It was an antiAmerican film set in Iraq (with Gary Busey as a Jewish doctor stealing Iraqi prisoners organs for wealthy American and Israeli clients, not sure what role Billy Zane played).

I watched Bull Durham on TV the other day. I can't stand Tim Robbins or Susan Sarandon but I enjoyed the movie just the same.

I liked it when the catcher tells the batter what the pitcher is throwing next and says "when you speak of me, speak well". LOL

Have you ever heard of suspending disbelief? Most movies require you to buy into the premise no matter how absurd. If you believe in Darth Vader for a few hours and enjoy the movie you don't necessarily have to believe there was a galaxy long ago and far far away where it all really really happened

No but in the original Star Wars trilogy, we were led to believe that Vader was a Hitler figure.

Then we spend 3 movies learning about young Hitler. A lousy story arch.

And in a galaxy HOW large, it resolved down to being dependent entirely on the actions of handful of players?

I am watching the Da Vinci code presentation on the history channel. It is very interesting and well done and explores all these ideas and legends.

What is the problem? This is not a smear of Christianity...it is a discussion of possible historical and mythical questions.

I would really be in big trouble if my spirituality were threatend by a movie, a book or even a discussion of alternative possibilities!

Religious Rigidity is not religious strength of belief.

I understand what you're saying/feeling....and agree.

I guess it should come as no surprise...however.

Our nation is struggling against itself.....we are divided.

One wonders how a Bill Clinton could be elected....twice....or a Gore, almost.

Millions went to see/supported The Passion of Christ.

Not as many, but millions still, will see this movie, and in my opinion, I don't think the folks who supported that movie are the ones going to see this one!

The DaVinci goers are clearly supporting a movie that blasphemes Christ and His Word.....

...but they might not see or understand this .....

We will all be held accountable whe we meet our Maker.....we will all give account.

Why would folks go see this.....after hearing good argument from respected leadership in the church....both Catholic and Protestant?....

..and why are they using the same talking points of the liberal pundits ....'it's only fiction?'

....I hope you also realize not everyone, even on this good forum, is a God fearing conservative.

Bingo! My grandparents were very religious people but they weren't threatened by things like evolutionary theory or biblical debate and alternatives. All the evidence of God that I'll ever need can be found by looking into the starlit sky or walking in the woods. How it all got there doesn't matter to me because I believe it was no accident.

This movie is totally disrespectfull to Christianity and Christians !. I would not condone a movie that trashes Jews or Muslims. My mother taught me to respect people. Evidently you do not see what why this makes people upset. If you knew Jesus in your life, and knew how great he was, and saw society for what it is becoming, you might be issuing a ditto to about everything I have said in this thread.

I am not asking anyone to convert, or condemning anyone to a pit of fire. I am just pointing out the disrespect that this movie shows to Jesus.

Let's put things in perspective.
The Da Vinci code claims Jesus is not divine.
If this is so he is not the Savior.
Which means there is no resurrection.
which means that when we die we all go to the Valley of Hinnom or HELL.

John 18:36
Jesus answered, "My Kingdom is not of this world. If my
Kingdom were of this world, then my servants would fight,
that I wouldn't be delivered to the Jews. But now my
Kingdom is not from here."

So if you are truly his servant, fight you must.

Worldwide it was #2 at $224 million: http://www.deadlinehollywooddaily.com/first-bo-reports-on-da-vinci-code/

Sony Pictures told me exclusively this morning that Da Vinci Code earned $224 million worldwide, making it the second biggest opening weekend of all time worldwide. (The only movie that did better was Star Wars 3, the last of the prequels, with $254 mil)

I think it keeps them from having to admit mans sinful nature. A lot of people insist that they don’t sin. You know, “relativity”. So they try to diminish or deny His deity. But no amount of lies can ever change who He is. He is King of Kings & Lord of Lords. They will bow before Him one day & confess He is Lord.

It’s hard to convince people of the need for a Savior when they believe they deserve heaven anyway. One of the most difficult things I’ve ever encountered.

Again I will state that it isn't common for countries to have coinciding opening dates.

In part US releases in the summer are tied to holiday weekends that have no equivalent in the EU or Japan or HK or NZ or AU.

Release date scheduling is also determined so as to not be opening on the same weekend as another suspected blockbuster.

The film brought in less than $100mil opening weekend US as had been boasted.

To claim otherwise is to parenthesis box office facts the way Michael Moore did to proclaim his the biggest documentary ever (non-concert film, non-Imax, etc...).
