Judge Says Duke Lacrosse Case Won't Be On Fast Track 7:40 pm EDT May 18, 2006

One of three Duke University lacrosse players charged with rape remained silent Thursday as he appeared in court for the first time, watching as his attorney asked the judge to move the case along quickly. Please try to watch the video. It blanks out for me. Shep Smith reported that racial epithets were unrepeatable, and that courtroom outbursts pre and post hearing against Seligmann included someone saying to him that he's a "dead man walking." No where, in any news story even on Lexis/Nexis, do I see this reported in detail, let alone verbatim. I stand by what I heard Shep Smith saying tonight on Fox.

Greta reported the "dead man walking" part and other disturbances coming from one individual. She reported this right after court adjourned.

Good to hear. I don't see it anywhere in print.

At least four times someone yelled 'Justice w/b served rapist' on the video. It sounded like the same person each time.

If true, the judge should have had the people who disrupted the courtroom removed. The outrage gets worse and worse.

Well, he's doing something. Isn't this guy a Democrat? Where's he getting his marching orders?

Let's stop being guilty whites, and demand the damn evidence. I look forward to my Shelby Steele's book.

The judge seemed like a pr*^k. Hope he's not the trial judge. He assumes the DA will do the right thing---what a joke. NC justice is a farce.

The case is on a slow track because even the judge knows the DA doesn't have a case. They are putting off the "battle royal" as long as possible.

Doubt there is any way on earth the defendants can get a fair trial anywhere in the area. And I doubt any judge has the "testicular fortitude" to move it. The OJ case in reverse.

They need to stretch this out as long as possible so Nifong can figure out how to argue a bogus case while the "victim" gets a legit job (how about "secretarial assistant"?) and gets used to wearing the "business suits" she will be appearing in at the trial.

Not sure what the law is, but due to the amount of publicity its had, wouldn't a refusal for a change of venue be grounds for a reversal?

IMO this woman was no more raped than I was.

Its a lie, and this clown of a DA is stirring racial troubles for personal gain. It seems the judge is as bad, allowing inordinate time for the story to be dragged on and on.
If this case finally comes to its conclusion and the boys are found not guilty as I believe hey will be , will this idiot prosecute the woman for the maliscious lie >>???

Dont hold your breath on that one.
