The ***OFFICIAL*** Weekend Singles' Thread -- (May 5th -7th)
May 5, 2006
Posted on 05/05/2006 4:56:13 PM PDT by rightwingintelligentsia
Welcome Singles and Friends!
You put away your snow shovels and ice scraper weeks ago. Your heating bills are finally on the way down. I guess it's safe to say that winter is definitely behind us, and soon spring will be just a memory as well, so it's not too early to start planning your summer. What are your plans for the Summer of '06? (C'mon--you can't spend all your time FReeping!)
1. Have you already booked your vacation? Where will you go? (the beach? a cruise? somewhere cool?)
2. What are your favorite summer activities? (Swimming? Cycling? Barbecues?)
3. What's your favorite summer meal or snack? Feel free to share recipes!
And as long as we're on the topic of summer:
4. Did you ever have a summer romance?
5. What are your favorite summer songs?
Shall I compare thee to a summer's day? Thou art more lovely and more temperate. Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May, And summer's lease hath all too short a date. Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines, And often is his gold complexion dimm'd; And every fair from fair sometime declines, By chance or nature's changing course untrimm'd; But thy eternal summer shall not fade Nor lose possession of that fair thou ow'st; Nor shall Death brag thou wander'st in his shade, When in eternal lines to time thou grow'st: So long as men can breathe or eyes can see, So long lives this, and this gives life to thee.
William Shakespeare, Sonnet 18

Great topic! I'm going to be home for the rest of May. Then for June, July, and August, I'll be the Archery Director at a summer camp. (And, please, save the jokes about kids and arrows. I've heard them all.) And then in September I'm going to DC for my internship!!!

Hi, Jackie!
My favorite things to do in the summer are to camp out and to fish in the beautiful mountains of southwestern Pennsylvania. And to lose some of the weight I packed on in the winter.

Oh, we put a different version of "Ring of Fire" up for you.
Listen to it and tell us what you think.

Hi, ILW! Sounds like a fun summer. And ok, I'll hold back on the William Tell jokes.

A girl I was in the Air Force with, Janet Rake, was junior women's archery champ for the state of Michigan. We were in tech school together.
She was as skinny as a rake so she was well named.

That sounds like a worthy goal. What do you think of my maiden posting job? ;-)
To: rightwingintelligentsia
Your post has all the bells and whistles. Looks like a very fine job. I really like the theme of summer, what are you going to do and what about romance?

Lol NO I'm not interning for Kennedy. I don't know for sure yet but it's most likely going to be with the Department of Defense.
I couldn't get the song to open. I don't know if it's my computer or the link.

Here was my summer romance.
On Friday, May 13, a pretty girl at work left a note on my desk saying to call her tonight.
I did and we talked for 2 1/2 hours and we fell in love and got married.
That was the good part. Since it began on a Friday the 13th, it really was jinxed from the start.

Darn! I don't think any of the links are working. So much for my posting job. Super--do you think you can give it a shot?
To: tet68
What do you mean "I don't look like Mr. Clean..."
To: Supernatural
Moral of the story--never fall in love on Friday the 13th?
I can't recall many summer romances--just winter ones.
To: ilovew
Shucks, the songs won't open for me either. Maybe we can patch it up.

Bows are much more advanced than they used to be.
I'm sure it won't take you long before you can hit what you are shooting at.
Those darn arrows are about $4 each with a practice point and $6 to $8 with a broadhead. You will wreck or lose 8 to 12 of them this season with practice and hunting.

I put "Romeo and Juliet" up for the ladies. It is a very pretty song and I love it myself.

To: rightwingintelligentsia
Lots of dead bambi's along the side of the road in PA. I think there are more killed by cars and trucks than there are during hunting season.

I almost hit a deer in my driveway last year! I see them all the time near where I love. A couple of weeks ago I watched as six of them crossed a road near my house--and I don't really live out in the country.
To: rightwingintelligentsia
Yeah, I feel fine now. Except for my allergies but that's easier to deal with than strep. Thanks for asking :)

Well, Boo is eating very well and resuming his normal self, almost. He has been quite active considering what he went through. He's been looking out the front door, climbing over the furniture, and even clawing the carpet (in the same spot Greystone did) and so on. I remember this time last week, we were fighting to keep the little guy alive and hoping he will make it. He goes for a checkup Sunday along with Pansy (checkup for her thyroid).

I hit a buck with my Citation some years ago. Front end of the car looked like an accordian, and the car never drove again. Buck pulled himself upright and stumbled down a hillside. The cops came and shot it.

Venison is actually very tasty, but it has a strong flavor you have to get used to. That said, it was good enuf for Robin Hood and his merry men back in the days of Sherwood Forest...so if society collapses (the Apocalypse and all that) and we have to live like it's 2000 BC, we could do it!
