"at issue is the translation"
My impression was that the words had been changed. Particularly the second verse. See #10.

I think we're elevating this idiocy beyond its worth by calling it a "national anthem"...it isn't.

It's some song sung in Spanish to the same tune as the National Anthem of the United States of America.

This song is no more our National Anthem, than To Anacreon in Heaven is.

I always heard that the tune was an old English drinking song.

It's nearly impossible to translate songs literally. Having said that, The Star Spangled Banner was not made our National Anthem until 1931, so any acts of Congress prior to that date must be viewed in context with the significance of the song past that point.

Whose bright idea was it to insert some idiotic hispano-hip-hop blather in the "anthem" about "Somos latinos, papá"? (We're latinos, daddy.)

Isn't that Star-Spangled Banner copyrighted? I bet the Keys family (Florida Keys, Garage Keys, Scott-Keys) are getting royalties..... (heh, heh...)

Always the weird 3 or 4 per cent who show up to vote undecided.

Finally, someone has a poll option that gives us a chance to tell them what we really think. Latest results:

Res ipsa loquater, baby. The sleeping giant of the middle America has been awoken.
