They were neither human nor his friends.

Exactly.

Such cruelty to animals is beyond my comprehension.

I know there are kind-hearted people out there that will want to adopt Rufus and give him the safe and loving home he deserves.

Is there proof that dogs move on and forget? Because I thought they remembered their abuse and if beaten for long periods just become damaged goods.

Some do, some don't. Just like some people can experience horrors and extreme adversity and recover happiness again, some don't. There are lots of variables in personality.

Yes, I do believe dogs have a 6th sense about people. The saddest thing is when the people who have raised them from a pup have mistreated them, then they distrust all people!

I am always amazed at the forgiveness of dogs

The fact that he can trust again is a incredible testimony to the character of a dog

I am sure there are lots of offers to provide Rufus with
the most loving home and he deserves it!!

I believe that even if a dog is mistreated from a puppy and is untrusting to humans, that if a kind , loving, and patient person were to take that dog that in time that dog will learn to trust that person.
It's a sad testament that humans are capable of cruelty, and can do mischievous mis deeds to a innocent animal.

Hopefully that would happen, maybe moreso with some dogs than others.

Two things I've read that made an impression on me. The first is that a human child has to learn 'love' by the age of two years. So many Foster care parents are never able to handle the children they get.

The other was that a dogs intelligence is equal to a two year olds! That impressed me because a two year old is already pretty smart!

Oh my! THAT is the funniest thing I've heard in a week, especially after what I said.

Don't trust anybody who doesn't love dogs.

A simple but very true credo.

Yes. It's like hating innocence itself. Fortunately, only a minority of people fall into this category.
