NEW YORK - Molly the cat is finally free. After two weeks stuck behind a brick wall in a 19th century Greenwich Village building, workers rescued the bashful 11-month-old feline from her plight late Friday, according to Jean Tannenbaum, a spokeswoman for Animal Care & Control of New York City.
Representatives of Animal Care & Control, a private organization with a city contract to handle lost, injured and unwanted animals, have worked alongside a team of rescuers to drill and hammer out bricks in the cellar of the 157-year-old building to get Molly out.
They used special cameras, set out traps and even tried using kittens to appeal to the cat's maternal side. On Friday, a pet psychic showed up.
Molly usually spends her time at Myers of Keswick, a delicatessen housed in the building. Proprietor Peter Myers opened the store which specializes in meat pies, clotted cream and other British food specialties 20 years ago and kept Molly to catch mice.
Kitty ping!
Ping!

Thanks for the ping. I'm so glad they finally rescued Molly! :-)
Saw this on TV yesterday..I am glad that they finally got the kitty out...
So how did she get back there to start with?
she was the resident rat catcher i think but got caught up in a maze like wall or so it sounded,,
Kitty bump!
Wow, THANKS Lord! (I prayed for her today).
Okay, so where are the PHOTOS????
Im waiting for pics too.. will post when they pop up or someone else will too.

Excellent! Thanks Pyro7480!
Awwww!
Poor thing, she looks even MORE terrified. Okay, I must be going blind. Is she all black, or a dark tortie?
she looks pretty black to me.. not sure, tho
All right, I just HAVE to know: What the H. E. double hockey sticks is "clotted cream?"
The British spread it on bread like butter. It's sweeter but less thick. Quite tasty.
I think its like curdled milk, not sure, tho
Thanks,, sounds good to me
I don't think curdled milk is spreadable.. lol
From my Molly to this Molly: "WOO HOO!"
Clotted cream is a treacle-thick yellow cream made by heating and then leaving unpasteurized cow's milk in shallow pans, for several hours, it is very similar to the Indian Malai. During this time, the cream content rises to the surface into 'clots'. Purists prefer the cows to come from the counties of Devon or Cornwall in England; true Cornish clotted cream must be made from unpasteurised milk or the clots will not form. Clotted cream is a required ingredient for a cream tea. It has a minimum fat content of 55%.
Awwww. Good news! Hope they've sealed up the way she got in, though.
Yawn. I care about as much about this cat as much as I do about Natalee Holloway.
Is it possible that Molly had no water for almost two weeks, and still survived? I don't understand.
Yea!
Happy Easter!

THAT's why the poor cat didn't come out, she wasn't "bashful", she was "stuck".
I am glad they rescued the poor thing.
Thats what I love about FR. I was curious, too, but I knew if I just read on, someone would ask. We have curious minds.
et tu clemenza ;-)
I fear the heartless NYC Health Department will get wind of this, fine the proporietor for having a cat in a public food establishment, and banish Molly from her job.
Personally, I like seeing kitties in food stores. The little bodega near my apartment employs a very entertaining cat named Robert (pronounced "Rrrrow-bear-t" because Spanish/Spanglish is the language of bodegas).
Condi ping.
