log on to irc.freenode.net:8001

I have never done anything like this before. Does this mean to put irc.freenode.net:8001 into the address bar of my browser and hit enter? When I tried that, I got an error message and the browser closed. I have IE6.0 ... should it work for my browser?

I have never tried anything like this before ... just curious to see if it would work.

it would be irc://irc.freenode.net:8001 if your browser has a built-in chat client. Otherwise, you'll need a chat-specific client like mIRC or PircH for windows.

I don't know how this works either. This link looks like it might be helpful for those of us who need more information to get started.

I was looking for the imbedded chat window in a browser I used in the mid 90s to chat on prodigy. I cant find it, but came across this.
http://irc.net/cgi-bin/irc/irc.cgi?adv=1

you can find one where you dont have to download and install a 3rd party software like pirch, mirc or a mirc addon http://www.havenofbliss.com/christiancommand/

Good grief! I have no idea what that is about either. Everybody just imagine the Israeli/hermaphrodite picture because I don't know how to post it.

I get "NOTICE AUTH :*** No identd (auth) response"

Almost as helpful as "Sorry, an Error has occurred. The Error has been logged."
