The below is a quote from Dana Rohrbacher,

"I say let the prisoners pick the fruits," said Rep. Dana Rohrabacher of California,"

Why can't Mr. Rohrbacher be a good American and give up his tax payer paid perks and work in the fields?

A question to all, what should be the wage for such jobs?

Should a snow cone attendant get $20 an hour?

Should a Congressman such as Dana Rohrbacher be paid $180,000 a year plus perks?

Should you tell a farmer or owner of a janitorial company how to run his/her company?

All replies welcome.

Heard a caller to Rush today describing what the government mandates he provide his legal migrant employees.

It is time for the government to get the hell out of our business. I was so enraged at what the man was describing.

The government causes the problem, then bloviates on the solutions.

Bah, a pox on them all.

Beginning with McCain/Kennedy and the rest of them too.

I worked in a California prune orchard one summer. It provided a very good motivation to go ahead and get that college degree.

He was talking about prisoners, wasn't he? Why don't you ask some prisoners instead of posting it here? I am sure you'll get answers that are more relevant to the topic by posting it to the right audience. Just my 0.02 dollars.

I did plenty of farmwork myself. It didn't pay much but it taught me something about responsibility. I mowed lawns all around town from the time I was about 10 or 11 years old.

Here's a really novel idea: let the marketplace set the pay scale. If unmechanized fruit picking is the only viable way to harvest, the market will bear whatever wage is necessary to draw the workers. On the other hand, if unmechanized fruit picking isn't viable at a wage level which can be demanded by free labor, it's hardly an economic practice which needs to be perpetuated.

Listen, before Sunkist pays anybody $20/hr to pick lemons, they will be in South America buying their fruit to sell to us.

Please call them INVADERS and don't compare them to people who are legal aliens!

IF you aid and abet CRIMINALS, you are a criminal!

President Bush has been great on most things except for our border.
He has been great on the war on terrorists.
But on the border he is a gross failure.
He acted fast and correct on the 3,000+ people murdered at the world trade center.
He ignores the many rapes, murders and robberies which might be larger than the murders and money loss at the world trade center.
More Americans are abducted on the border of Mexico than in Iraq!

Start building the fence.

It should be made a felony for Criminals who overstay their visas and Invaders.

I believe we should give amnesty to these poor CRIMINALS or INVADERS.
This should be a 2 week amnesty to get the heck out of our Country.
The ones who ignore this amnesty should be buried in a tent city jail and fined $10,000 or buried elsewhere.
All aiders and abettors of these CRIMINALS or INVADERS should get 1 year in a tent city jail and a $10,000 fine for each CRIMINAL aided.
Those in government should be the first ones charged.

Why should a farmer be mandated to hire priosners?

There are 20 million illegal aliens here, not the lie of 12 million.
I'm in favor of a border fence-wall and serious employer sanctions that will make illegal aliens want to go home.. I'm in favor of a guest worker program for 1.5 million agriculture workers. All other industries will adjust with out the cheap illegal immigrant labor. Janitorial crews are in cities where the poor live. Organize the poor and those on welfare to do it.

So I answered both your questions

It's really amazing that you can take a tongue-in-cheek remark, that made a great point, and jump to this conclusion. LMAO!

"hardly an economic practice which needs to be perpetuated"

So you would rather send your money to some South American country, than allow migrant workers who will work for the wage into this country. Have I fairly stated your position?

So you are saying a college education is a prerequisite to be a Congressman?

Hmmm. I'm probably not going to stop what I'm doing. I take care of my children. My husband has his own business so he won't change jobs. But, what, he did put in his time. He did landscaping and he did janitorial. If he had to, he would again. It's called moving up from an entry level position.

Conservative or not, Dana has been sucking the government teat all of his adult life.

Are you crazy? Is this your bizarre way of saying I have no right to say they should not be employing illegal aliens? That it's against the law

The norm in the United States is to deport  illegal aliens. Not the bullshit that's been foisted on the American people for the last 30 years. Where the elites and hacks in DC treat American sovereignty as a joke.
