What have you been up to these days

Podcasting, podcasting, podcasting. LOL!

Unc, in his wisdom, had us do extra LLoyd and Peli shows yesterday. After all the moaning and groaning he has had to endure from me about the winter weather, I am almost certain he has been monitoring the weather conditions in my area and figured I would want to play hooky today after he saw the forecast.

After surveying the garden, it appears I may have lost my dogwood that was planted a year ago. Will know better in a few weeks. On the plus side, my hanging rose tree is already budding and I did not lose the daffodils!

With all the rain we've been having of late I will be outside trying to keep my backyard from becoming a jungle. Like you, I can only do a few hours at a time. Also like you, it will be done. It would be great to be able to do it all at once but...I figure we are blessed to be able to do any at all. Plus it gives us a good excuse to take unlimited tea breaks, n'cest pas?

LOL! Sorry Ms Feather! Didn't mean to turn the answer to your simple question into an essay.

Oh no problem. Happy to read about how you are doing and what! LOL

I don't have a dogwood tree, wish I did. I have a small backyard. I do have a lilac tree that I planted in 1995. I love it.

My daffodils are budding now. Crocus are out. The fern are putting up new fronds.

fyi...This is one of the best dollz I have ever seen. It always makes me smile. (Even if I can't shimmy like Kate or anyone else, for that matter.) And it doesn't have a dopey look on its face like so many dollz do.

Oh thanks, I do love my dolls. They have style. And I do agree about the dopey faces. And she is blonde like me. ;)

If I tried to shimmy tonight I would wind up in intensive care. ROTFLOL

It was my understanding that dogwoods are relatively easy to maintain. I believe it's also our state tree. So am somewhat annoyed especially when I see so many flourishing.

Is the lilac tree also known as the butterfly bush or is it different. Does it have the lilac fragrance? If so, I am going to have to find one. I love the lilac fragrance. I thought I saw a pic of your garden somewhere. It looked pretty nice. Set up as a "getaway" of sorts? That's what I've been trying to do here. I've got bushes and flowers in the yard but would like something a little cozier (read: easier to take care of) around the outdoor table. Am probably going to do more container gardening this time.

Lilac and Butterfly are two different bushes. Lilac has the sweet smell.

I cannot do anything in the front yard at all so I take my solace in the back yard.. when I don't have to share it with other tenants.
It's not a problem really, they are all grad students so always gone. ;)

My haven of rest.

The bush with the Shepard's hook in the middle is the Lilac.

April, 2006

April is the cruelest month, breeding
Lilacs out of the dead land, mixing
Memory and desire, stirring
Dull roots with spring rain.
- T. S. Eliot, The Waste Land, 1922

When the April wind wakes the call for the soil, I hold the plough as my only hold upon the earth, and, as I follow through the fresh and fragrant furrow, I am planted with every foot-step, growing, budding, blooming into a spirit of spring. - Dallas Lore Sharp, 1870-1929
