Just caught the event on television and...WOW! What wasn't great was at least very interesting. It went well until British twit Elvis Costello opened his Liberal mouth and proclaimed "People blasphemed by saying that Hurricane Katrina was an act of God. We now know it was an act of man."

Hats off to Paul Schafer who not only produced but jammed with the Miles Davis tribute group plus the opening and closing acts (much as he did with the all-superstar band in "Blues Brothers 2000"). Having seen that guy easily keeping up with every musician ever to grace the Letterman show - surely there's a special award for him in the future.

Poor Shirley Manson, talking up Debbie Harry like she was a class act only to see Ms. Harry confirm her pettiness a short time later. Skynard segment was good but overlong. The apex was Metallica covering Sabbath tunes with consummate musicianship that managed not to upstage the band they were honoring.

And the controversy continues...as fans of the band Rush continue the push to get their boys inducted. Rock and Roll on, Triple E.
