Is Chris Wallace stupid or lazy? You decide.
WABC radio | March 10, 2006 | Self

Earlier this morning John Gambling had Chris Wallace on his WABC radio show. Wallace is on every Friday morning so he can plug his weekend show. I don't know much about this show since I stopped watching when Tony Snow left and Wallace took over. But what I do know that

This weeks plug showed Chris to be either stupid or lazy. I can't decide. Wallace said that the president was in trouble because "the AP poll shows him at his lowest point so far" or something to that effect. Then he pointed out that the Democrats are leading Republicans be a big margin in the "generic polls".

I guess Chris doesn't know that the AP over polls Democrats by a factor of 12 points as a regular part of its polling process. I guess he just hasn't bothered to do any research into the explanation of their own "generic poll" the Gallup people admitted to recently.

What Gallup said was that the big Democrat edge comes from speaking to " registered voters". They go on to point out that when only "likely voters" are counted, the GOP actually has an advantage. It seems small, about 1 1/2 points, but put into prospective, it is very important.

If the Democrats go into an Election Day anything less than plus 5, they lose seats. When we are on the plus side we win big. This is why people who understand this process KNEW we would take back the House in 1994 when we went in plus 5!

Being new to politics I guess Chris Wallace doesn't know these things, but I wish Fox would not have given him an "on the job training" opportunity.

Is Chris Wallace stupid or lazy? I report. You decide.

Last week Brit Hume looked right into the camera and lied to us about Bush's poll numbers. On one night, he reported with a mocking tone that See-BS had over loaded its poll by 12 points of Democrats and therefore produced a suspect document reporting a very low approval number for Bush.

The very next night, Hume looked right at us and reported that the Fox poll had Bush at about the same low number and just skipped telling us that the Fox poll over polled Democrats by 10 points. He probably thinks that there is a big difference between overpolling Democrats by 12 points or 10 points. I don't.

What has happened to Fox? They are atarting to take us for granted. I now watch on Hume's show. H&C is a joke.

There is hope.. Tony Snow has been hinting at 'some things to come' at FOX for him a new show.

Now he is relegated to his saturday morning show, but I'd LOVE to see him in a weeknight position, or a chunk of time sunday afternoon.

They did their best to suppress the Swift Boat Veterans. I think election drama is good for the talking head business.

This over sampling issue is a real puzzle. The problem is that pollsters can not construct their sample base on party registration. It is self reported.

Thus in a period when the current president's numbers are down, more people will claim to be of the opposite party meaning the sample should not match the sample at the last election. On the other hand the old media is corrupt and we can not trust them to commission an honest poll. Thus, my view is we can never know what Bush's actual popularity is now.

Is Chris Wallace stupid or lazy?

The two are not mutually exclusive. It's quite possible that he is both stupid and lazy.

Brit Hume doesn't lie. He's the best in the business. I saw that clip and the #'s were not "at about the same low number". The poll he discussed, had the #'s at least 8-12 points higher. You are the one lying.

Here is my "generic" take on most talking heads: they exhibit below average intelligence...that's why they are called talking heads. They read other people's writing, they report on other people's doings, and they maintain their jobs at the behest of other people.

Some exhibit a certain glibness and fluency with words but then so do totally illiterate people from stone age societies in New Guinea.

"Me, I'm pretty lazy but I'm not stupid."

Nothing to be ashamed of being LAZY.
If it wewrn't for LAZY people we wouldn't have many things.

Example. The Wheel. A lazy cave man got tired of carrying heavy stuff back to the cave. He invented the wheel to help.
I can just see it now, him fighting off other cave men and his cave wife, telling them to leave him alone he was working on the wheel.

FOX News/Opinion Dynamics Poll Methodology

Weighting

Generally, Fox News poll results are not weighted. The national probability sample, if conducted properly, should accurately reflect national attitudes. However, particularly because the survey is often conducted over only two nights (limiting the opportunity for callbacks), some demographic deviation is possible. Opinion Dynamics Corporation has a constantly updated database of demographic information about the national samples and, if one should deviate significantly from past averages, weighting is used to bring the sample into conformity with other samples.

His voice just grates on me and I get overly excited when his guests ramble and on. Nothing about his style appeals to me. The only reason why I watch is because my husband loves to make fun of Juan Williams. 8-)
