Bryant's act isn't leading to a title
The Washington Times ^ | 1-25-06 | TOM KNOTT

So much for the X-rated goings-on with the shaky woman from Colorado, chasing Shaquille O'Neal to Miami, accusing Karl Malone of trying to hit on his wife and leading the Lakers to an awe-inspiring record of 34-48 last season. Kobe Bryant scores 81 points in a game, and it is all good. No, it is better than all good. It is nirvana. It also is surreal, whatever the definition of surreal is.

It's supposed to be a team game.

Just like Wilt's 50 pts/game and 25 boards/game didn't lead to a title for the 76ers in '62. When Wilt's 76ers finally did win the title in '67 he only averaged 24 ppg.

The Chicago Bulls won zillions of titles with Michael Jordan totally dominating the action.

Jordan had (future Hall of Famer) Pippen to support him, and anyway his numbers weren't even close to Wilt's. .....or even Kobe's as of late.

The Lakers are in a bit of a spot.

Kobe is an absolute ball hog, but he's also just about the only way they will win any games.

the only other player really worth anything on that team is Lamarr Odom and he's a headcase.....

81 points in a game was a helluva performance. Let's remember he's also scored nearly 70 in another game.

It's gotten to the point that the other players on the Lakers are going to give Kobe the ball because if they don't they don't feel that they can win.

Kobe can score all the points he wants. However, Lakers will not go anywhere because there's no way they can get past San Antonio or Phoenix in the Playoffs.

Basketball...Or, I should say the NBA...hasn't been a team game in ages.

The NBA is all about thuggery, showmanship, and "how can I get out of playing for a podunk town like Sacramento."

Has been that way since the mid 80s at least.

In a post-game interview, Kobe said that he was all about the "W." Yeah. Uh-hun. Kobe has only one thing in mind. Kobe.

Yup... who do you want taking the shot:

Smush Parker who was playing CBA ball at this time last year?

Chris "Foul a Minute" Mihm who is about as agile as a buffalo?

Kwame Brown who hands are so bad that he should be starring in a Tim Burton movie?

Lamar Odom, who at times is good... but goes through spells of being the worst player on the court.

but you know, if you can get a guy who can score like that and STILL shoot over 60%, wouldn't you want him to shoot he ball?

that's what I am saying.

I wouldn't necessarily want Kobe Bryant on my team, but pretty much everyone knew that the Lakers weren't going to win the Championship anyway....

Don't worry though.

It isn't as if we can have an NBA thread on FR without SOMEONE pitching a bitch about it being about thuggery.....

It's almost like it isn't a real thread until _________ comes in with this thuggery blast.

It's starting on the NFL threads too.
