Maybe you "current events" thread readers would like to come to this thread:http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/1563210/posts and share thoughts about Johnny. The King of Comedy passed away 1 year ago.
I miss him a lot. Say what you like about his topicality as time passed, but the thing about Johnny is that he was always there. A kind of rock of stability through the endless political and social storms of the 60's, 70's and 80's. Whatever happened during the day, you'd turn on the TV and he'd be there. Homespun, decent, and - so rare in this day and age - normal. That is, whoever was on the show, and whatever they had to say, Johnny represented a mainstay of traditional American values. You can't say any of that about the other fellows now on late at night. It's gone. Just the opinion of a Hick in the Sticks.
No one can replace Mr Carson as the late night King he was the class act period!!
A classic. Hope I did the link right.
The only other person to be able to do that that I can recall was Jack Benny.
There hasn't been anyone that can hold a candle to Mr. Carson. All the rest are poor, pale, unfunny plastic imitations.
