I'm posting this in hopes of getting opinions and advice about my growing annoyance of being bombarded with loud hard rock music everywhere I go. It's in grocery stores, department stores, even dentists offices, and it's ALWAYS on TV, in practically every single commercial.
What's worse, I got a job at a major chain department store that caters to mid-America. It's not Penny'S but it is on a par with Penny's/ The sotre plays mostly rock and roll all day long. At night it's nothing but hard rock. The Killers, Lynrd Skynrd, Blondie, Billie Idol, Swiftfoot, ZZ Top, and on and on and on. The music is loud too. (It's loud in most stores.) Not only that, in the store where I work the lyrics of some of the songs are raunchy. Aerosmiths Walk this Way is about oral and group sex. Billy Idol's Rebel Yell is about, well I can't print the words. Even the song, What's Your Name Little Girl, (don't know the artists) is about picking up a woman at a hotel and staying the night with her, plus a band member "having a go" with one of the guests.
This is just my opinion please you rock fans don't take offense. I hate rock music. It's worse than animals growling and screaming. The electric guitar is the most annoying instrument known to man. I am wearing earplugs to work and night and in most stores. Still I can hear it. Help me someone to understand why this music is the most popular form of music in the world. If you like it tell me why so I can try to understand and learn to live with it because there is no escaping it. If you don't like it please give me some sympathy!
Dad? Is that you?
What would you rather hear? Amy Grant?
"Rock is dead they say...Long Live Rock!"-Pete Townshend of the Who
Does anyone have that bunny with the pancake pic? I can't seem to find it.
I'm probably the wrong person to be replying, since I think Skynyrd epitomizes all that's gone wrong with music and music fans over the past 30 years.
Bunch of talentless hacks churning out the same two songs with marginally different lyrics . . . the next time I hear "Free Bird," I swear, I'm gonna jam my keys into the eyes of whoever played it.
Jeez, do I ever HATE that damn song.
I love rap and hip-hop. I find both far more fresh and innovative than anything Skynyrd ever did.
Shoot your TV. You'll feel better at home at least.
Jeeesh---I'm an oldie and I like rock music----makes me shop faster.
I'm 50 years of age and LOVE rock.......and I'm one of the louder rock guitar players you'll meet. You're probably a nice person but I doubt we'd get along, so.......
"If it's too loud, you're too old."
Lynrd Skynrd, Blondie, Billie Idol, Swiftfoot, ZZ Top
You need to move out of 1980.
lol
I think I heard there was a giant Disco festival in the mid-west last week.
Oh....and Skynyrd's reference to "one of the crew had a go at one of the guests" was referring to a fight, not sex. Ahem.
Perhaps this should be in breaking news and not just news/ activism.
Just for comparison, what music do you prefer? Opera? Country? Rap? Classical? Bluegrass (ugh)?
Do they play any Stones or Zeppelin? They rule!
The Captain & Tennille were on Fox & Friends Sunday.....I carry a 45 and now have one less portable TV......
How can you NOT like ZZtops?
"Rock and Roll Ain't Noise Pollution"
Hey there, all you middle men
Throw away your fancy clothes
And while you're out there sittin' on a fence
So get off your ass and come down here
'Cause rock 'n' roll ain't no riddle man
To me it makes good, good sense
Good sense
Ow
Oooh yeah
Heavy decibels are playing on my guitar
We got vibrations coming up from the floor
We're just listening to the rock that's giving too much noise
Are you deaf, you wanna hear some more?
We're just talkin' about the future
Forget about the past
It'll always be with us
It's never gonna die, never gonna die
Rock 'n' roll ain't noise pollution
Rock 'n' roll ain't gonna die
Rock 'n' roll ain't noise pollution
Rock 'n' roll it will survive
Yes it will, he, he, he
~ AC/DC
I heard if you play Stairway to Heaven backwards it says "worship Satan!"
How do you know the names of the bands?
LOL...........I like 'em, but I can't argue with your take on Skynyrd's "Freebird": bombastic, overblown, overrated, cliche'-ridden crap. Ask any of us rock guitarists what the running joke is for ANY cover band....and we'd ALL agree with your "keys jammed into their eyes" thing.
BTW.......how's mom?????
I use to go to a particular store. The last time I was in there the music was so loud that I told my daughters that I was leaving and was not coming back. That was about 6 or 7 years ago and I have not been back. I enjoy music if it is in the background not blasting in my ear.
LMAO!!
Whipping post!!!!
tell me where you work so i can go there to shop.
I like rock, particularly from my "era".However, the loudness I could do without.A guy at work, my age, puts the 70's station on full blast.Been there, done that.Don't need a do-over.
Betcha don't hate it nearly as much as I hate my fellow Conservatives accepting the media label of Communist Red for Republicans. :-D
So...uh...what's yer point?
:)
Young Whippersnappers and their dadgummed rock & roll!!! LOL you cannot win as if you are critical you only end up sounding like the grouchy old geezer down the street. That being said (in jest), one of my main peeves is hearing the songs I grew up with in the 60's and 70's now being used to sell products. Our revolutionary music has been co-opted by "The Man" , "The Suits", and it sucks!!! LOL But i did prove to my son that Bob Dylans Subterranean Homesick Blues is indeed the original rap song.
My hostility was engendered by my first fiance, who made me observe a respectful five seconds of silence after "Free Bird" and "Stairway to Heaven." (How HE avoided keys to the eyes is a mystery.) He tried for 30 seconds, but I found that a physical impossibility.
Plus, whoever sang on "Free Bird" had a BAD sinus thing going . . . the whine in his voice makes me want to slap him.
Mom's doing okay - chemo is a little tough on her, but so far so good. Thanks for asking!
Its Sinatra, Metallica, and Miles for me.
Oh my goodness. This is just TOOOO perfect given your screen name. Be sure to check out the audio.

Dirty deeds (done with sheep)
If you're havin' trouble with your barnyard friends
You got a thing for ewes
Been countin' sheep, but you're not in bed
Here's what you gotta do
Get off the farm, stay outta the barn
Go read a nursery rhyme
Don't ring 976-BAAA, that kind of love's a crime
Dirty Deeds Done with Sheep
Dirty Deeds Done with Sheep
Dirty Deeds Little Bo Peep
Dirty deeds and they're done with sheep
Dirty deeds and they're done with sheep
My friend Larry has a little lamb
Her fleece is white as snow
He keeps braggin' 'bout her night and day
Someone should tell him NO.
Look at the flock, they're all in shock
Here comes that mutton fan
Knock off the fleece, give them some peace
Don't be a barndoor man, no.
Dirty Deeds Done With Sheep
Dirty Deeds Little Bo Peep
Dirty Deeds Done With Sheep
Dirty Deeds and they're done with sheep
Dirty Deeds and they're done with sheep
Velcro gloves, kneepads, late night dates
Done with sheep
Warning signs, electric fences, high voltage
Done with sheep
Dirty Deeds, don't tell them what I done to you!
Done with sheep
Dirty deeds, Dirty deeds!
Dirty deeds done with sheep --Baaaaa!
(Quiet gals, I think the shepard's comin')

I'll stop trolling now ;^)
What you say? Are you some kind of Communist?!
31 posts on this thread and the best one is the first. LOL
Can you give me some examples?
I think you should quit your job.
You shouldn't put up with that loud electrified music.
Take a stand and drop out!
Join a commune where there is no electricity and only instrument you'll ever hear is an acoustic guitar. You'll have plenty of vegetables to eat and you won't have the Man telling you what to do, forcing that rock n' roll music on you.
One important thing to remember is that it's time to leave the party when you hear a slurred voice yelling "Hey, man, plan some Skynnard, man..."
I agree with you - but its a lost cause.
The teeny boppers who Rocked to Elvis in 1955 are all over 60 now.
People today think the Stones are "Classic".
Good music is gone forever.
Good taste, Jazz, Beethoven -
GONE WITH THE WIND.
Stores program the music for the demographic. I'd say your a demographic of one with that range of music.
Count your blessings. For the next month we're going to hear nothing but Christmas carols.
Thankyou. I guess the southern vernacular escapes some. I've always known that meant having a fight.
