The call to the police came in at 1 a.m. Thursday and sounded like a supermarket tabloid headline.
A man in the small Iron Range town of Gilbert was being eaten alive in his home by rats, the caller said.
Police needed to do something!
Skepticism turned to disbelief when they responded. More than 200 black rats -- a colony originating from one pregnant pet-store type of rat that the mentally disabled man had taken in -- had overrun the small house.

DNC Headquarters??
Recommend a big net and a bathtub full of water.
...and a little Lysol for the cleanup.
NOW we know where all those NOLA politicians ran to when the flood started....."here, little Nagin, here little Blanko.."
"Police rescue man from home with 200 rats"
No way would I let 200 democRATs into my home, any fool knows you would have to rescued once you did.
That's pretty impressive. I didn;t know the police were using rats to rescue people. Whomever trains these rats is pretty good.
Target practice!
Nah donate them to zoos and pet stores cause they'd be perfect snake food...
Just........ewwwwwwwwwww
You know those 'rats, they prey on the weak.
ROFL actually rats (the furry kind not the DEMO kind) are very smart. We had two as pets a few years ago and they were like dogs in rodent bodies. Very obedient (yes you can teach them to do tricks and have manners), affectionate and clean.
I agree, they can be so sweet and loving! But I can easily see how things got out of hand here, since I also had an experience with a "bonus rat". However, I made very sure that I seperated her babies as soon as it was safe and humane to! She was preggo when I got her but that was the only litter born under my roof lol. Baby rats sure are cute but man can they eat! And umm...defecate :-)
