The Iron Cross with James Colburn. It was about Germans on the Russian front. Except for one sort of dream sequence in the middle when Colburn was suffering from shell shock, the movie was a solid keeper.

"Truly, Madly, Deeply" IS very good. I wasn't sure I'd buy Alan Rickman as a love interest, but he sold it to me.
"Dear Frankie" is my newest favorite. It is that rarity of rarities: a family show that you can feel good about. Such a gem of a movie! It could have been sloppy and sentimental, but wasn't. And it has Gerard Butler. (Sigh.)
"American Dreamer" is a hoot. Tom Conti and JoBeth Williams are delightful together, and the plot is NOT predictable.
"Waiting for Guffman" and "A Mighty Wind" are two of the funniest "mockumentaries" ever. Excellent satire.
"Ponette". French film (I know, sorry!) about a little girl who lost her mother in a car accident and how she tries to find ways to talk to her. At least four hankies needed.
"Hopscotch" with Walter Matthau and Glenda Jackson. Clever and fast-paced international spy comedy.
"The Full Monty". Maybe this was not so unknown, but is a very sweet story underneath it all (pun maybe intended!)about people caring for each other.
I'm sure as soon as I post this, I'll remember something else, LOL!

"Wages of Fear". It's French from 1953 and sub-titled, but it is truly nail-biting. Truck drivers try to haul a load of nitroglycerine through a bumpy jungle.

I didn't realize that "Dear Frankie" was so recent--I saw it a few days ago at Meijers, which is not really known for having an extensive amount of movies on hand. I should have snagged it then. I might just nip out and get it tonight.
Loved "The Full Monty"! We have gnomes all over our house.

I just KNEW it! "Simon Birch" is a gem of a movie that got NO publicity and is a wonderful family film. Funny, sad, and a neat story about families.

There are a few recent French films that I have enjoyed (some not so recent)--Amelie, Le Femme Nikita...there's one, I think it is called "The Dinner Guest" or maybe "The Dinner Game" which is absolutely laugh your butt off hilarious. A few years ago, I went out and bought every copy of that movie I could get my hands on, and gave them all away. It was too funny to keep to myself.

After the Fox, starring Peter Sellers, Victor Mature, Britt Ekland Peter Sellers, writen by Neil Simon, score by Burt Bacharach (with the Hollies on the theme)...doesn't get much better.
It nearly killed me when Mike Myers stole one of the bits from this film for an Austin Powers movie-- he totally ruined it!
