I limit my rants to those who are attacking the only leadership doing anything about the situation and want to prop up the incompetence of those who were supposed to lead.

Well at least somebody on here has a good heart and true compassion. "Love thy neighbor as thyself" is what I heard while growing up. Must have stuck with me.

Yeah, barely felt it over here.

I've emailed djjava and jacket lately, after I saw they got another plug on the Corner (NRO).

Okay, enough personal jibber-jabber, just had to pay a compliment to another thoughtful and perfectly articulated post from Seamole....

I happened to have started Thomas Sowell's "The Vision of the Anointed" this weekend, and I have to say it is such a relevant book at this time. It's like I'm watching this book come to life on my tv these days. Breaks down point by point how liberalism's entire world view brings this kind of situation to fruition and why they will never face up to the way they have permanently disabled the people they purport to care for, no matter how disastrous the outcome. Downright criminal.

I would love to see Sowell write a book on this disaster.

Let not your heart be troubled. They care deeply.

After millions of posts, threads in the thousands of posts, they get down to the nitty gritty gossip, complaining, rumors and everyone's personal opinion of how all could be done better. But, there is a lot of information on here you will not see elsewhere.

And, they too get really upset when things do not work to get the care to the people.

recriminations against Jesse Jackson

The man is a race baiting vampire, sucking the dignity out of the people he purports to champion

How's that for a recrimination?

I have got to agree with the things you said. I too have a hard time feeling sympathy for the people that didn't leave when they were "ordered" to do so. But I also can't believe the late evacuation orders by the government in NO. I heard the President had to call the mayor and tell him to evacuate.

I too feel sadness for the elderly, the sick, and the children that couldn't leave on their own.

I blame the people in charge there for this disaster in the first place. Given the location of NO, the history with Camille, and the major population of the city...why would they only have levees strong enough for a cat 3 storm? I don't understand that at all.

The looting, shooting, and sniper attacks are absolutely disgusting. I can only condone the looting if it is for food, water, or maybe baby supplies. I hope all the people that have been shown on tape, including the 2 female police officer looters, will be arrested and prosecuted sometime soon for their crimes. As for the sniper shooting at the hospital when they were trying to evacuate critically ill patience...hang him by the testicles.

and for having a city, by the Gulf of Mexico, 10 feet under sea level...if they rebuild it, they should do like they did after the "Great Chicago Fire"...raise the city up and build over the destruction.

Well, I take it by your freepname that you are a proud mother. Most likely a compassionate and loving one as well. But that obviously doesn't prevent you from seeing the reality of the situation. I don't think you are alone. In fact, I think you represent the majority viewpoint despite what the media is trying to convince everyone to think. My wife is currently visiting her sister. Both are loving, compassionate mothers of a total of 6 great kids. My sister in law is pretty liberal. But both she and my wife share your (and my viewpoint). They have lost sympathy for what they view as a large amount of people who failed to take action to help themselves when they were directed to. Like you and me, they feel very sorry for the elderly and the children. But if it weren't for so many of the idiots who did have a means of leaving and decided not to, those poor children and elderly would probably be receiving much better help.

Sympathy died when it became apparent that this never needed to happen, and that there are as many - if not more - criminals left in N.O. as innocent people.

Thank you for your kind words. I am a proud and loving mom of three daughters and one grandson, but my screen name is for my dog. LOL I consider myself a realist, not being blinded by what other people tell me to think...that sounds like you and your family also, and that is a good way to be.

I do like your point about so many deciding not to leave when they could have, leaving better care and help for the elderly and the children. Just to add onto that a bit, if these people were to go as mandated, they probably would have taken quite a number of the elderly and children with them. Thus, leaving a MUCH smaller number of people needing help, and being able to have room for them, and the ability to give them the best care and attention. It just makes me sad, but at the same time, mad as hell at these pig-headed people that refused to listen...now they are the ones running their mouths demanding everything, and criticizing our President because they turned a bad situation into a situation from hell.

People who saw Jessee in person when he came to LSU tell me he looked very sick. I said, "like old" and they replied "very sick"

Is JJ very sick? And should we all send a sympathy get well card?

Sorry, I have descended into some strange state where everything is seeming funny to me.

Has it occurred to you that a great many of these people had nowhere else to go, no money and no means to travel?

Tell that to the 14 people who crammed into one vehicle and drove from NO to a suburb of Detroit in that fashion. They are here now and are being put up in a local hotel. They scrounged and scrounged to find the money just to keep gas in the automobile but they did what they had to to get themselves and their children to safety. Where there's a will, there's a way.

you darned well better do a turn around in some of your posts and be extremely sympathetic to the victims of Katrina.

So basically, even if I give, I shouldn't dare voice that I think it was asinine that so many people stayed regardless of the warnings and orders to do otherwise?

Exactly. It's not what you do to help that matters, it's whether you express "sympathy" and "compassion" in the proper terms for the appropriate victims. (would be sarcasm, but that doesn't exist any more)

There has been a lot of compassion on FR throughout this situation. There has also been a lot of bigotry, smugness, self-righteousness and anger.

Guess that thin veneer of civility applies to us too.

Troll

You obviously have found a nice loophole to let the Democrats and assorted looters keep shooting at those outpouring love out there.

Gob bless them and the people who are "putting them up". I'm also glad to hear they had a vehicle between the 14 of them. This ought to tell you something, but I doubt it will get through.

What should it tell me? That they started out with several vehicles but as they ran out of gas they had to consolidate the people into the remaining vehicles until they were down to one?
