Bird Rescued From Heat

CLACKAMAS, Ore. -- A chicken was rescued Tuesday from a hot truck.

An anonymous tip brought a livestock deputy to the Clackamas Village Place Apartments on Scottstree Way, where she found a hen locked inside a pickup truck parked in the sun with the windows up.

A locksmith was eventually called to open the door, and they found the animal inside with no water.

Motor vehicle records failed to lead the deputy to the truck's owner, who could face animal neglect charges. The hen was taken to protective custody.

The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office reminded the public that animals should not be left in hot cars without air circulation and fresh water.

I soon expect legislation mandating an avian emergency eggsit from all passenger vehicles produced after 2010 which could have prevented this near tragedy. Anyone who would leave their pecker in a truck on a hot day ought to be tarred and feathered.

It's curious that the vehicle records could not aid in identifying the perpetrator who appears to have flown the coop...the hen is in protective custody, no doubt being kept as a bird-en on the tax payer...
