Last 2 articles pulled, one by Ted Rall and the last by USA Today. The first was pulled by the moderator and the last because USA Today can't be posted here. Just damn! This one will be pulled in short order too I assume. I've had enough of censorship for one night and I'm headed for bed.
And yes, I am logged in but now I'm logging out!

Well, the USA Today thing is a LEGAL issue so it's not censorship but FR meeting its legal obligations.

I've had enough of censorship Then complain to USA Today. Being here since 1999, you know as well as anyone that FR can get sued out of existence if they allow posting of articles that other sites/companies have expressly forbidden such postings.

He's fun to yell at. Personally I can't see a reason for banning him. No one here agrees with anything he says.

Rall's an attention-hog. It's what he wants. I don't mind posting lib's opinions so we can comment on them, but Rall's such a loser I honestly don't think he deserves a forum.
Just my humble opinion.

No, the proprietor of this fine site says Rall is unwelcome. That should be good enough for you.

Ted Rall will have some explaining to do to the Gipper and Tillman before God sends him to the other place.
As for USA Today, who cares? No great loss...

Ted Rall is primarily a "cartoonist." He's the guy who wrote the cartoon about the 911 widows using their relatives' deaths to make money.
And that's just the tip of the iceberg.
To: William Creel
"What could they do to us if we post it, sue us!?"
Yes. It's happened. So if a publication (such as USA Today, aka "News McNuggets") explicitly requests that its articles not be posted, then FR cannot allow that.
I'm not saying I agree. Fair use should include posting and discussion of press publications. But that's the world we live in, for now.
To: Brilliant
Let's not forget his trashing of Pat Tillman. That was the last straw for me.

What's the LEGAL thing about? If USA publishes something (anything), it's out there and fair game. FR settled a law suit with the Washington Post and LA Times a few years ago that forbids us from posting entire articles (full length of story) from those publications here on FR. There is a little info on the lower part of the FR home page. Other publications have been added to that list with various conditions, which must include USAT. There was a FR post with all the info, I had it bookmarked but apparently cleaned it off my links page. If you are ambitious or anyone else has it bookmarked, please re-post.

Thanks for the info. I guess if Jim has legally worked this issue to a conclusion, than so be it. However - - I think the conclusion is incorrect. Perhaps the quote full length story is the issue - but anything printed by any news media is quotable and they are held (very legally) for their quote. I am free to notice who said what - but perhaps I'm not free to say it here.
If I can't call a spade a spade here - then where? It seems to me that main stream media lies regularly and sites like FreeRepublic are prohibited to respond. Perhaps a little civil disobedience might be in order. Short of that, Stand within the law and push the edge by simply allowing members to post portions of whatever they just read.

For heaven's sake, this is a privately-owned site. It has an extensive history, some of which involves extensive litigation - referred elsewhere in the thread - but in any case, if you do not want to comply with the policies of the owner of the site, build your own site or create a blog and post your opinions there. The marketplace will then decide your fate, and you will be the boss.
