Anyone who is even remotely honest about it - except for the most genuinely ignorant - has to admit that it is not the same thing for older women to take advantage of minor boys as it is for older men who take advantage of minor girls (or boys, for that matter).

A decent point, but both still wrong.

I don't agree. The biological differences between the male and the female make them qualitatively different situations.

Two female teachers have been suspended for allegedly having a threesome with a 16-year-old male pupil.

This is sick.

I'm not a bit surprised though to see the comments I've read on this thread. The "usual suspects" showing their true colors once again.

FR is getting like FARK.com for conservative males.

I agreed, but I think they're both still bad.

lol

I remember a story a few days ago of a teacher who dirty danced with a student and the comments were similiar.

"That is disgusting. The teacher should be fired. Society is going down the tubes..... and....... Why do good things never happen to me?"

And those were just MY comments.

Perhaps, in a similar way to the way in which both male and female homosexuality are bad, but the male version is far, far, worse - a clear and present danger to society - while the female version is a mere vice.

Some of The Facts of Life:

#1. Boys and girls are different.
...
#7. There is a double standard.
#7a. The double standard somehow makes sense.
#7b. We probably won't be able to change the double standard.

(If you want to hurl stuff at me, you need to know that I never whined about equality. I never believed that a he = a she. I never complained about being different.)

One can only be outraged by this by pretending that there is no difference between men and women.

I still think that taking advantage of youngsters in this way is bad in all situations. Yes, there are differences between the sexes and the situations. I just think they're both bad. I don't think any of it as a "mere vice." I resent any coverage given to Mary Kay Lowturnoff. She insulted all teachers with her actions.

Just because someone jokes about this does not mean they support it.

I joke about winning the lottery, but have never even purchased a ticket.

We would all laugh if we saw a picture of Ted Kennedy helplessly strapped to the roof of a car plunging into a small, deep pond, but that does not mean we would support it. (at least not without due process)

Is a 16-year-old really a "youngster"? The way I see it, if there's anything to be concerned about, it's the potential abuse-of-power charge, not the age of the subject.

A 16-year-old is not an adult, that's for sure. I will agree that kids can be more aware of things than we give them credit for. But still the fact that he's not an adult still stands. I agree, the abuse of power charge should stand too.

IIRC in most of the USA a 16-year-old is considered to be of the age of consent - in the UK I know they are.

Private schools -- at least in California -- typically pay teachers less than the public school system does.

According to the US DoE, public school teachers make 20-30% more than their private school counterparts. And while private schools spend much less per student, far more of the money actually makes it to the classroom.

I have a number of California teachers in my family and I will state without reservation that they are mostly overpaid. I look at how much money they pay my sister at the age of 24 and shake my head.

In Europe, everything is consented. There are movements in some states to raise the age of consent. Sixteen-year-olds ought to be concentrating on other things besides sex, even though it is probably hard--no pun intended there by the way.

But of course if one knows the first thing about male biology, they know that there is little else on the mind of a typical 16-year-old male.

That's what I was saying. I don't think it's a proper age to make sexual decisions though, just as I don't believe one can properly decide he/she's "gay" at that age either.
I didn't need to have sex at that age. I DID need to graduate from high school.

I'm not saying that this incident is without fault - just pointing out that it is a lot different than if it had been male teachers and a female student.
