MasterCard Statement on Data Breach Lawsuit Filed in California

Purchase, NY, June 29, 2005 - With respect to MasterCard, the lawsuit filed in California on behalf of cardholders and merchants who claim to have been potentially affected by the data breach at CardSystems Solutions, is without merit. The complaint fails to state an adequate claim against MasterCard, which publicly disclosed this situation as soon as we had verified the accounts for which data had been improperly stored in violation of our rules.

Moreover, facts already in the public domain make apparent that MasterCard acted expediently to identify the situation, rectify the vulnerabilities in the system, and immediately upon verifying the potentially vulnerable accounts, notify the proper parties in order to protect cardholders.

Got a letter today the 30th from my bank dated the 28th telling me my Mastercard/debit card has been cancelled and I will recieve a new one in 10 days. Tried to get gas the 28th and was declined. Went to the bank the following morning the 29th to find out why and was told the card was worn and I would need a new one. WAS TOLD NOTHING about Master card problems. THEN paid $50 dollars for overnight delivery on a new card which was to be today, it never showed. Now I have to get up and go to my bank and ask what's going on. I'm going on vacation July 1st. I am pissed.

Anybody else have problems with MC cancellations?
