Journos balk at 'Smith' interview restrictions
Legal reps for Angelina Jolie gave journos a jolt during the run-up to "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" with a legal agreement that attempted to set new precedent in the already tense relations between celebs and the press. The agreement, faxed to journos from the law firm Sloane, Offer, Webster & Dern, demanded as a condition of an interview with Jolie that journalists agree to not ask any questions about "personal relationships," that the interview "only be used to promote the picture," and, incredibly, that the interview "not be used in a manner that is disparaging, demeaning and derogatory."
Junket vets are accustomed to pre-interview agreements....

I've heard the term "journo" for some time. I guess it sounds more hip than "reporter."
I suppose if I had committed adultery and contributed to the breakup of a marriage...I wouldn't want "journos" asking too many questions.
Apparantly Angelina wishes to use the press only for her financial gain (promoting the movie) - but does not wish the press to pry too deeply. She is choosing her publicity...and to that I wonder - if she really thinks her adultery is off-limits, then why be such a public figure at all?
I think the "journos" shouldn't agree to deal - they should boycott her.
I'd be tempted, but it's probably difficult. These reporters depend on access, and if they tick off the wrong person they can find themselves shunned, which would probably get them canned.
I hoping that it catches on enough so that a casual link becomes entrenched in our language.
