Yesterday while at the local Pop Culture collectibles show where I went to meet Major Don West (See Thread In News), I was talking to a woman who specialized in Peanuts toys, I had a lot of Peanuts toys when I was a kid so we hit it off very well. She really liked me until the following exchange occurred, I said: "I enjoy looking at all the old toys, it brings back fond memories", Excitedly she stated: "Maybe we should get some Republicans in here so they can calm down!". Very calmly I replied: "Well, I'm a Republican". I have never seen anyone turn so many shades of red. Her follow up reply was: "Now I wish I hadn't said anything bad about Republicans." LOL,LOL I didn't tease her at all as that would have reinforced her ignorant stereotype of Republicans. We parted kindly and I laughed my ass off when I went out to my car.
Ive made a hobby out of finding common ground with liberals. Once they feel comfortable bashing conservatives I point out that I'm a conservative.
There are a couple of common reactions. Some become angry that I had somehow deceived them. They are lost cause cases. Those that apologize aren't hopeless, they've been forced to think a little bit.
When asked if I want the senior citizen discount, I say, "no, if I start wanting something for nothing people might think I'm a democrat".
