Why Is Scott Still On 'Idol'? Is “votefortheworst.com” propping him up? (+ Bo’s dr

SCOTT Savol, who seems to be the most unlikely finalist on "American Idol" this season, just keeps hanging on.

And viewers are beginning to wonder exactly how Savol, the pudgy kid from Shaker Heights, Ohio, is managing to pull it off, while fan favorites like Constantine Maroulis get the boot, as he did Wednesday night.

Some point to the efforts of a Web site called votefortheworst.com, which considers "Idol" a joke and encourages viewers to cast their votes for Savol because, it says, "he is the worst."

"I think our site definitely has some effect on the results for 'Idol,' " says Dave DellaTerza, the site's creator.

"I always used to say it's just like any 12-year-old girl power-voting for [Idol wannabe] Carrie [Underwood]," he says.

That girl "thinks her results affect the show, too, when they just help to contribute. But I've changed my tune a bit since our Web site got over 100,000 hits in the last two days. Now I'm hearing from people who throw 'vote for the worst' parties, who get office pools together to vote for Scott . . . This has definitely turned into something huge, which I hope will continue."

It was a shock Wednesday when Maroulis, who had never before come even thisclose to getting tossed from the show, was voted out. But the native New Yorker took it in stride.

Bo's Drug Woes Smoked Out

Don Kaplan

April 29, 2005 -- 'IDOL" Harold "Bo" Bice's past dalliance with drugs came out yesterday.

Turns out Bice was arrested twice in Alabama for drugs, once in 2001 for cocaine possession and again in 2003 for pot possession, according to legal documents posted on The Smoking Gun Web site.

"Idol" producers, who knew about the arrests early on, do not plan to bump Bice from the show.

"The information disclosed on various salacious gossip Web sites regarding Bo Bice's past was already well-known to Fox and the producers of 'American Idol,' " Fox officials said in a statement. "From the beginning, Bo was honest and forthcoming in revealing his previous indiscretions and their outcome."

Bice entered a drug "diversion program" in 2003, and after completing it, both drug cases were dumped in April 2004….

Yes, I know there’s important things going on the world and this is not news of major consequence, but I don’t care. Besides, it’s culturally significant in the way the internet is finding new ways to influence the culture and move against the intentions of the media giants. Or I can rationalize posting this story under that cover story.

Deciding I was culturally deprived by not ponying up to the bar and ordering a big stinking American glass of vapid American Idol cola, I finally gave in and started watching it this year. It’s pretty fun.

And I actually like Scott. He’s edgier and funkier than all the other contestants. He’s the only one who you wouldn’t expect to be singing on a cruise or in the band at your parents fiftieth wedding anniversary. He’s dark, like a singing serial killer or something. I’m happy every week he makes the cut.

Constantine got really lame when he started making smokey faces to the camera. He started thinking he was Fabio or something. Good riddance.

And the worst singer of the lot has always been the wee Russian lad with the blowhole. Ugh. He’s a back up singer on the Tony Orlando and Dawn Variety Hour. The worst.

BTW, Vonzell will win, especially since Carrie started sucking.

At least now it makes sense why the talented ones are getting voted off and the ones that should be gone aren't.

Idol better figure out a better way of doing this or it's over, at least for this watcher.

I knew something was up when Anwar was voted off. He and Carrie should have been the last two standing.

Scott looks like a serial killer, the guy is seriously weird.

My daughter can outsing all these goobers. Kelly Clarkson was the first, and last, American Idol. The rest are also-rans. They've run out of talent. Everyone who can really sing has already auditioned, except possibly, those yet too young, like my 15-year-old.

The Unknown Comic tapped into the same subversive vein, as did the Gong Show.

IMHO, from its earliest days, MAD magazine was the best examplar of this uniquely American style of cultural expression.

Go Scott! ;^)

As a fan of this show, I find myself agreeing with the voting public most of the time. Scott is still around because -- for all his weaknesses -- he is edgier and sings from the heart. Also, voters can identify with the guy who is overweight, un-glamorous and the opposite of slick.

Constantine had to go because there are two male rockers and Bo Bice is clearly better.

Vonzell looks better than she sounds. Bo should win. Carrie will be runner up.

I wondered who the heck was voting for Scott. I sort of half-watch the show, while FReeping on the couch with the laptop, while my wife watches it.

>>He’s dark, like a singing serial killer or something.

LOL, that's a pretty good summation.

I think pre-teen girls are keeping Anthony in the game. All the other males are too "threatening".

Can't believe I'm chiming in on this, but I think Carrie and Anthony are the only ones with true vocals. Bo's voice sucks! Vonzell is always pitchy.

But the best line in the piece was about Scott... "He’s dark, like a singing serial killer or something." No kidding!

Scott is Cleveland's Most Wanted (i.e. sequel to Malibu's Most Wanted) ...

The guy is pathethic ...

He sings a love song as still has his wannabee gangsta hand gestures going.

At work, we make fun of this guy all of the time. You know the "N" word. Replace the N with a W.!

It's harmless, and fun. Not to mention that it's one of the few primetime network programs we can actually watch as a family.

When you get right down to it, it's just a singing contest for young people. There is a lot worse on TV, and my son can finally watch a program that all the kids are talking about.

This is the only reality show I got hooked on. I really like Bo. I am a big Classic Rock and Metal fan. It is refreshing to have a candidate who is singing music I like. I do like some country as well so Carrie is also a refreshing candidate. But I will agree with you that Vonzell has stepped it up big time. I would not be disappointed if she went to the finals. I do want Bo to win though.

Frankly, I fail to see the attraction or talen of any of the remaining candidates.

I think the need to go the route of Nashville Star. They only let you vote once from your phone. You need multiple phone numbers to vote more than once. Also there is on-line voting. I was told that was one vote per email address.

That will put a stop to those who keep redialing the same number over and over again.

It's typical of the younger crowd.

My son-in-law, who is 24 talks and acts like he grew up in the ghetto.

But he actually grew up in a moderate WHITE neighborhood.

I commented yesterday about this site that it probably had little effect and was little known. I guess I was wrong. Maybe it is the reason Scott is still on the show.

I love American Idol. It is one of the only shows that my family can sit together and watch. I wish others wouldn't feel like they have to ruin it because they don't like it. Just don't watch it if you don't like it.

Any show that starts out with 4 black, 4 white, and 4 brown girls and 4 black, 4 white, and 4 brown boys is rigged from the get go.

This is just more PC b.s. being sold as "America's Choice" or "America's Ideal".

Saying those 24 contestants were the legit best of the best would be like saying Barry, Sammy, and Mark are legit.

Bo is the only one on that show who doesn't sound (at best) like every other "pop star" on the radio. He actually improves on the originals in terms of vocals, which is impressive.

Constantine was painful when he was doing any rock stuff. Not just a bar band singer -- but a bad bar band singer. I think the 16 year old girls thought it was "American Boyfriend", not "American Idol", when they voted. He was somewhat decent when he backed off with the 'tude a bit and just sang.

Anwar and Scott had/have the same problem. A nice sounding voice but with very limited range. They sound great the first time you hear them, but the lack of range makes every performance sound the same after awhile. Boring as hell.

I wouldn't mind Vonzell winning, and Carrie has some vocal talent but not a clue how to use it.

Someone posted that Scott was 1/2 black? Both his parents are white. His child is 1/2 black - but, who cares? IMO, he has a decent voice, just should drop the "homeboy" schtick...
