LaGrange has its own feeding tube controversy, with family members at odds over medical care for an 81-year-old woman at Hospice LaGrange. Ora Mae Magouirk has been in hospice since March 22, suffering from what granddaughter Beth Gaddy described in court papers as dementia, an aortic aneurysm and a blood clot. ...cont on link

A google search for "Ora Mae Magouirk" brings up nothing.

Where did you get this information?

Thanks. Do you have any idea where lagrangenews got this information?

I emailed the editor yesterday, including the fact that I am a writer/columnist in New England and gave her the info to check me out.

I figured it would get more of a head's up that way.

Can't say for certain that this gave her the "better check this out" impetus or not - but glad it's been written. That gives the story legitimacy with our contacts like Sean, Rush, FOX etc

what?

Do you think the LaGrange local paper would run a story llike this on thier front page without checking it out? They'd get sued big time for slandering the Hospice, and all others concerned, not to mention be in very hot water with their readers.

The LaGrange paper is in the same town - hello?

anyone want to read the local paper of the town involved:

More to JeanS from me, maine-iac7

You can also go to the site listing ALL the Georgia newspapers -

http://www.start4all.com/newspapers/georgia.htm

and scroll done to GRANGE NEWS, La - to find the town's newspaper with the front page story on Mae.

http://www.lagrangenews.com/

so no, I doubt the story is "fabricated".

I'm in the newspaper business - we sure wouldn't run a local story like this involving a local Hospice, without checking it out...

Thanks, I'll take your word that this is a true story, although possibly not completely accurate.

My family had to make some hard decisions two years ago when my mother and her mother were seriously ill. Unfortunately they both died within a month of each other. I am grateful you were not involved in our decisions regarding their care.

"I am grateful you were not involved in our decisions regarding their care." Where you come from, is hateful considered constructive communication? ... First you accuse the paper then the poster of untruths, then you sling an insult without any cause to do so. Been around the Terri death squad at FR too long, hon?

I did some google searches and this is the only source for this story. WND picked it up as did some Terri Schiavo blogs.

I did not want Terri to to be murdered, your "death squad" comment was out of line.

In reply #16 I mentioned how my mom and grandma died within a month of each other. I never posted that on this forum before but I posted this comment to make a point. I am grateful no courts or media were interfering with my family's decisions. And no, we pulled no plugs or feeding tubes.

My discussion with you is over, hon.

Boy, oh boy. Well, we gotta tighten up the standards some - they'll just let any old body into the death cult these days. Pretty soon everyone's gonna be a death cultist, and then it just loses all meaning....

I am grateful too. Usually people only hear about it if there is a controversy.

Glad that you and your family could come to an agreement although I doubt it was a happy one. It never is. More families should be like that.

do you really think the local newspaper in LaGrange would investigate and run this as front page if bogus?

I have worked in the field for years and I can tell you they wouldn't take the chance in their home town. For one thing, the hospital and it's affiliate, the hospice = would sue their heads off. etc etc - but I won't bother you with anything that might upset your take on it.

MAE MAGOUIRK HAS BEEN AIR LIFTED TO THE UNIVERSITY OF ALABAMA-BIRMINGHAM MEDICAL CENTER ... and receiving IV fluids, nourishment and some of the finest medical care available in the United States!

Great News! posted by eeevil conservative on post # 1451 on thread "It's Happening again..."

So good so far - still a fight, I guess, to have her put back to Hospice, but my guess is, with all the light now on this case, so soon after Terri's plight, the hospital is not going to send her back to hospice without D*MN good evidence for it

by the way, due in a very big part to all of us that didn't sit back and "wait" - Mae has just been airlifted out of Hospice to THE UNIVERSITY OF ALABAMA-BIRMINGHAM MEDICAL CENTER

oh, never mind - is was only her nephew that told us this - probably a fabrication. Never mind, go about your way.
