Challenge yourself. How many words can you spell correctly?
This were words used during this weekends Colorado State Spelling Bee. The boy who won had only been studying for the bee since the beginning of February.
Here's the spelling test here
Here's a 3 minute video showing a synopsis of the bee here
Here's the article that was written about the bee here
As you can see from above...my spelling is atrocious (did I spell that correctly)?
Hah!! As long as there is spellchecker, I'm good to go.
Close enough.. I got 9 out of 10 correct...
I'm impressed! Was that using Microsoft Word's spell checker? ;-)
I got 8 out of 10.
And let's not even talk about grammar.
no.. I blew it on furbelow or whatever that was.. I was totally unfamiliar with that word
Very obscure words in that spelling test.
Furbelow == mighty cold (-4)
4 out of 10 just leaving the defaults, 8 with the words I did know...
Of course everyone realizes that we're cheating a little bit on this test. The kid's did not get to look at variations of the words and choose one...they actually had to spell it from scratch.
Can't say I ever found the need to use any of those words in my life.
The winning word was 'stupefacient'. I used a series of words like that just last week when referring to someone at DU as 'stupid face' :-)
Not bad. I got 8 out of 10. I missed "schussboomer" and "trierarchy." Instead I chose "schusboomer" & "triarchy."
Of course they heard the word also....that usually helps a little.
Nine out of ten. Never heard of a "chayote" before.
