PORTSMOUTH — A girl who told police a man abducted her in Shea Terrace on Monday and forced her to partially undress before dropping her off again at a neighborhood street corner made it all up.

Police said they had closed their investigation after a detective spoke with the girl’s mother Friday afternoon.

Detective Lindsay A. Voorhees, a spokeswoman, said the department, for now, is not pressing charges against the 12 -year-old girl for the false report.

“The incident didn’t happen,” Voorhees said, declining to discuss why the girl made up the story earlier this week.

Then, police said the girl was unable to give a description of her alleged assailant other than that he was white and reeked of alcohol.

The claim had civic league members up in arms and also led to stepped-up police patrols throughout Shea Terrace during afternoon hours
