Any documentary which is transmitted anywhere in the world in any version as a television or internet program within this period will automatically be disqualified from award eligibility. Well, that's pretty clear, even to me.
Let's see how they get around it.

Well, lets see if they bend or elimnate the rule for their favorite fat ass.
Regardless, Some Kind of Monster is going to win the Oscar for best documentary.

Seriously, the most troubling thing about this is that since he is ineligible anyway what is to stop him and his friends at the networks from showing this propaganda the night before the election on ABCNBCCBS?.

I predict that Moore will bypass the DVD market and release a cleaned up version of Farenheit 911 to TV, most likely cable and satelite alternative stations (like ITV, FSTV, LINK) to air for free about a month prior to the election. He's made enough money, his real goal is to hurt President Bush.

This decision could ensure that 'Passion of the Christ' wins best picture. (if Aviator, Phantom of the Opera etc. perform below expectations)
To: Petronski
Moore has PUBLICLY stated he hopes people go download the movie from the Internet.
I think that alone should disqualify this piece of rat excrement from any awards.

Doesn't matter one way or the other. I intend to boycott the Oscars and I hope everyone else will too.

Equal time FCC provisions should prevent that and the network contracts probably won't be done that fast..

Im a big Mel Gibson fan, if he is nominated as best director (which is probably a shoo in) I will definiely watch the last hour to see if he wins.

Im assuming Fidel has total control over his media network, even in old age.
To: gopwinsin04
H'wood insiders were already predicting this would be nominated for Best Picture, not just Best Documentary. So this little Cuban snag will only give that effort further momentum.

Are the rules different for best pic nominees?

Are the rules different for best pic nominees?
I'm not 100% sure, but all the articles about this explicitly state that this violates rules for the "best documentary" category. I am just assuming that they would have said that this violates it from any Oscar consideration if the rules applied to all categories.
But again, I'm not 100% sure.

YES:
3. Films which, in any version, receive their first public exhibition or distribution in any manner other than as a theatrical motion picture release will not be eligible for Academy Awards in any category. (This includes broadcast and cable television, as well as home video marketing and internet transmission.) However, ten minutes or ten percent of the running time of a film, whichever is shorter, is allowed to be shown in a nontheatrical medium prior to the films theatrical release.

May I remind you and others here AMPAS deliberately violated its own rules for the sole purpose of getting Moore's
Trolling For Concubines nominated. That does not even take into account his winning the Academy Award.
What makes you think they won't do it again?

The Academy won't let such rule violations stop it from rewarding leftists. Just look at BfC.

Fidel &Fatso -- Perfect Together!
Unfortunately, Hollyweird loves both. Expect every rule to be broken to get Fahrenheit 7/11 nominated in every possible category. I wouldn't be surprised if Fat Boy Moore were nominated or best liberal propagandist.... er.... director.
