I found a blog, by Ron Gunzberger, here: http://www.politics1.com/blog-0604a.htm#crown2
---6th story down, which describes this event in greater detail and provides photographs. I don't know anything about this Gunzberger, who is obviously a liberal from some of the stories on his page.
But, I checked Gunzberger's links late last night, and read the speech Moon gave, which was posted on the IIFWP website. Moon has since removed the speech! Everything Gunzberger reported seemed to check out.
Moon was crowned by Rep. Davis with a gold crown, and in his speech Moon declared himself: "humanity's Savior, Messiah, Returning Lord and True Parent".
I am totally appalled. Can anyone provide anymore information on this event?

The Moonies have put a lot of money into pro-family causes. And you can't deny what a good thing it is that the Washington Times exists. I have a colleague who attended a fully funded pro-family conference that was, overall, very good. Over the course of the conference, there was a few minutes devoted to Moonie proselyting. It bugged him because it wasn't part of the advertising, but the conference, he felt, was useful overall.
I have a sneaking hunch that the congressmen who turned up for this event did not know that Moon was going to called himself a savior.
This is kind of a conundrum, isn't it?
It is good to have someone with money on the side of traditional values. Do you reject the Moonies because of some of their beliefs, or do you accept them as part of a pro-family alliance with assets that they are willing to spend in a good cause, and just separate the wheat from the chaff in terms of their beliefs? I lean toward the latter.

I love the Wash Times, but Moon is a total kook.
But I don't think it's correct to say he 'founded' it.

On the evening of March 23, a group of the Rev. Moon's associates gathered at the Dirksen Senate Office Building in Washington. There, the Rev. presided over a ceremony presenting "Crown of Peace" awards to a number of honored guests. Several U.S. Congressmen -- Democrats Sen. Mark Dayton of Minnesota, Rep. Danny K. Davis of Illinois, Rep. Sanford D. Bishop Jr. of Georgia; Republicans Rep. Roscoe G. Bartlett of Maryland, Rep. Christopher B. Cannon of Utah, and Rep. Curt Weldon of Pennsylvania -- received "Ambassadors for Peace" awards.
Decked-out in a campy floor-length cape, the Rev. Moon was presented with an ornate gold crown and a lifetime achievement award. Introduced by a shofar-blowing rabbi, the Rev. told the star-studded audience -- made up of congressional members and a number of religious leaders -- that a "new era" had come: "Open your hearts and receive the secrets that Heaven is disclosing in this age through me."
The Rev. Moon may have turned a few heads by pointing out that while he is as human as the next guy, "in the context of Heaven's providence, I am God's ambassador, sent to earth with His full authority. I am sent to accomplish His command to save the world's six billion people, restoring them to Heaven with the original goodness in which they were created."

They almost destroyed mine in the late '70's, when my aunt nearly fell for their crap. I wouldn't shed a tear if "Reverend" Moon took a bullet in the head.

ping...interesting information on our government...
Here is the full quote from Moon's speech:
"The five great saints and many other leaders in the spirit world, including even communist leaders such as Marx and Lenin, who committed all manner of barbarity and murders on Earth, and dictators such as Hitler and Stalin, have found strength in my teachings, mended their ways and been reborn as new persons. Emperors, kings and presidents who enjoyed opulence and power on Earth, and even journalists who had worldwide fame, have now placed themselves at the forefront of the column of the true love revolution. ... They have declared to all Heaven and Earth that Reverend Sun Myung Moon is none other than humanity's Savior, Messiah, Returning Lord and True Parent."

Republicans Rep. Roscoe G. Bartlett of MarylandI've supported Bartlett in the past since he is a member of the Republican Liberty Caucus. His office is going to be hearing an earful from me.

It's a wonder the rapture index hasn't noted this:
Rapture Index Unless Moon is already considered one of the False Christs (I wish they had links to each category, so one could see what the site considers fulfilling each category).

I reject the Moonies no matter what they do or what cause they champion. They are a cult, they are dangerous, and they are liars.

I have no doubt Moon said those things, and you know what? Not a single person there could have understood a word out of his mouth. He spoke for 45 mins. at a Wash Times award banquet many years ago. He's the owner, gotta listen, right? And all these Washington types in their tuxes are out cold in their chairs after dinner, trying not to snore.
Reason: Moon has his speeches written out phonetically in English, which he does not speak, and then he makes the sounds. You cannot understand him. Cannot. Anyone who reported what he said had to have had a transcript, provided either in advance or after the fact.

I tell you what I do. I "tolerate" their beliefs. Which does not mean that I support them.
I fear insulting my God, more than insulting them, and knowing his anti-semetic comments, and his belief that he is god, I would not attend any of his events.
I do not support any congressman who likewise attends his events either.
