PASADENA, Calif. (AP) - Like a couple of camera-packing tourists, two robotic rovers are schlepping enough photographic gear to Mars to keep the folks back home in pictures for years.

NASA hopes the first of its twin rovers, Spirit, will begin taking pictures within hours of its landing Saturday. Its sibling, Opportunity, should do the same after its arrival at the Red Planet three weeks later.

I agree with Sheila Jackson Lee. This expensive mission won't be worthwhile unless the rovers roams over to where the astronauts planted the flag back during the Apollo days.

FRom this farm kid who grew up enthralled with space exploration and NASA in the 60s and into the 70s, Congrats to you and wifey!

I am always glad to hear news of future taxpayers in the pipeline. Somebody's gonna have to pay for all our prescription drugs. ;-)

We may not make it off this planet, but hopefully, someday our progeny will. I just hope our bloated national deficit doesn't keep them earthbound any longer than need be.

Excitement is building, but not too much. It has to land first. 3 days to go to the first landing.
