The “housing crisis” whatever that means, is a separate issue for the states and for many states it is not an issue.
If you really want more “affordable” housing, get the state and local governments and all their zoning and other mandates out of the way.
You are correct.
Government has long passed the line where it’s a referee in a free market.
Look at health care-
About 40% of all the money spent is in governments hands: Medicare, Medicaid, Veterans Administration, Tricare, Vaccine programs, programs for labor and delivery, HIV/AIDs, government employees (federal, state and city) and the health care plans offered to them, county hospitals/clinics, so called “essential woman’s health care,” and a plethora of other special programs.
But at the same time they act as the referee: NIH, CDC, FDA, DEA, FTC, courts.
Today government manages >1/3 of all the players on the field, they own the stadium and play the role of referee. ***(((Free market?)))***
