“How long does it take to damage a gasoline engine by running it on diesel fuel?”
a few blocks ... ignorant thieves broke the lock on the diesel refueling tank where i worked construction back in the day and then filled up their car ... the car was found abandoned a few blocks away ... we all got a BIG chuckle out of that one!
Honest Mistake??? Betting the tanks are labeled in English.
Sounds Maui ish for disaster disasteringness potentiality.
Your government was probably involved in this fast track to the stalled out lane move.
As an aside the main post office was unexpectantly closed yesterday and had up a sign “closed for technical difficulties” turns out the entitled so called workers did not show up even at their usually tardy times so the government rum united states porstal servuce shut doors for the day no problem right?
The way it happened to me was the bulk truck put diesel into the unleaded underground storage tank. The bulk truck was there when I was doing my fueling. The station caught the error just as I was leaving & had a tow truck take my vehicle to a mechanic for draining the contaminated fuel. My vehicle was just one of many that had to be repaired on the bulk truck company dime.
” Petróleos de Venezuela (PDVSA), the Venezuelan state oil company, owns 100% of the stock of .”
And Venezuela is run by communists.
Fortunately in my case no damage was done to the motor. I shut it down as soon as it "took off". The RPMs went to dangerously close to redline. Could've thrown a rod. It was a pain. Took quite awhile to get it running normally again but it was back on the road that night.
Depends on how much gas is already in the tank. Top up an almost full tank with $5 of diesel, and you may be able to get a good bit down the road. Fill up an almost empty tank, and yes, a few blocks if you are lucky.
The engine can likely be salvaged by a good mechanic, but it isn't going to be cheap.
I bet we never get an explanation of how this happened.
It would be good to know who did this and how. Names and how they did this.

If you have an older (Pre-1990) engine with 8.5 to 1 compression and a carburetor, you might be able to drain the diesel, change the fuel filter and oil and be OK. It will just not run on diesel. If you have a new Mazda or Honda with a 14 to 1 compression engine it will be blown; maybe into pieces.
Accidentally right before your vehicle is needed to evacuate from the hurricane. Maui 2.0?
Yes, the timing is suspicious.
I agree 👍
Things like this are never supposed to happen.
It happened at 29 stations. Probably many thousand in the effected area. Good headline though.

We winter in Cape Coral, FL and as such I’m a member of several of the local Facebook pages. There was a whole flurry of people talking about their cars breaking down and trying to figure out why before this was announced publicly. I bet hundred if not thousands of cars were damaged.
