My father wore tailored suits and had a wonderful collection of ties. I was always honored when he asked it I’d like to pick out his tie for the day. He wore a suit every day until his death at 83. Always the gentleman!

NO short sleeves when wearing a suit, or sport coat I violate that rule sometimes. I have a light mustard color Hickey Freeman suit that for hot weather I wear with a black silk tee shirt. Kind of a Miami gangster look but it works.
Over the last two years I have had to give away a giant wardrobe developed over a lifetime. Lost 85 lbs due to cancer and only my shoes and ties would fit. I have some new stuff I like, but what a loss.

Necktie PARTIES for certain politicians would be preferable and more productive.

Screw that! I conduct all my management in heavy metal T-shirts, and I and my team love the casual, approachable and “we’ve got a job to do here today, so let’s kick some ass, man, and go home proud of our work and salary” attitude. Neckties are for media talking heads.

My hubby has a wonderful collection of Jerry Garcia ties. He was known, at his office, for his Christmas tie collection. Once, on "take your daughter to work, day; a woman introduced her daughter to my hubby and told her daughter that, "this is the man I told you about who wears Christmas ties."
Hubby made the tie, fun.

Something about a blue jacket connotates authority.

I associate the movement from proper attire, suits, ties etc, to casual as simply laziness. Mental laziness associated with the decline of other important societal traditions. These trends have not appeared to help, I’d argue they have hurt society over the past 20 years this trend has occurred.

I have suits that have never been altered. The last time I wore a tie, people thought I was a pastor. I used to wear a tie at my current job but was finally asked to stop. They said it would hurt recruitment. Young programmers are slobs

Yep, a basic jacket/sport coat/blazer sharpens you up without looking like you’re trying too hard or getting into dandyish territory.

That is weird, wild stuff. I did not know that.

LOL... well hell I guess so. You don’t wanna give someone the benefit of the doubt and find out right as you get run through with a sword you didn’t see in time.
