I used to wear a suit and tie to work every day.
In an office where every man had a blue or gray suit and white shirt....your ties and socks became your “statement.”
I loved my ties. I used to have a tie with gorillas on it. In meetings that were a waste of time, I would tap my tie discretely. This was a message to my team that we were just “spanking the monkey.” This lead them to speed it up as bit.
Neckties and suits have not kept up with the times. Menswear today needs to be more like tactical gear for all the things men carry such as:
-Keys
-Wallet
-ID holder
-Moneyclip with cash
-Phone (work and personal)
-Glasses
-Sunglasses
-Pen
-Mini notebook
-Knife
-Firearm and extra magazines
-First Aid kit
-etc.
It never hurts to dress for the job you want, rather than the job you have.
Any time I’m dealing with a major financial item, such as purchasing a car or dealing with my financial advisor, I dress like a banker (except once or twice where I dressed quite like a bum when haggling, as an experiment; yeah, I can pay with dead president’s pictures and have an 830 credit score but clothes are a tool of manipulation)
Good Lord, man! Don't you have a liveried manservant in attendance to carry those things for you?
Regards,
Now that I work from home, I've got 3 dozen ties on my rack collecting dust.
Regards,
Am surprised they haven’t brought back the codpiece.
Just wait for big flowing neck ties aka women’s 1960’s scarves.
Yep, all my “work” clothes are just sitting in the closet taking up space.
Agree.
A well tailored suit, a properly tailored shirt with correct sleeve length in both. I prefer the traditional point collar as opposed to the spread collar, which to my mind looks like the collar found in a woman’s dress. Most importantly polished shoes, well maintained WITH LACES!
My dad and grandpa impressed these upon me.
A couple of mistakes learned at a young age...
“How far up your jacket would I have to reach to find for shirt sleeve son?”
NO short sleeves when wearing a suit, or sport coat
“If your shoes are loafers, you look lazy. What? Too much work to have to tie them?” Your probably a lazy worker...a w general truism
“Down in the heel” a term for worn out shoes is also an euphemism for down on your luck, going through hard times, poor. Get the shoes re-soled. A good pair of dress shoes can be resolved 4+ times and maintain their comfort and appearance.
Lessons learned from dad
Cost for above
Custom suit $1200-1400
Custom shirt $140-160
Quality dress shoes $250
Hey, look at that...about the same as one once of gold!
Same as it always was.
...that is all
I always notice peoples shoes. No matter what else they have on.
It is my understanding it was to control lice. First you cut your hair close to the head, and put on the wig. Lice don’t like the wig because it isn’t warm nor does it have dandruff to eat.
Wake me up when Nehru collars come back
I do too!
Mmmm no. Don’t wanna put a noose around my neck.
I think ZZ top said it best: Sharp Dressed Man
That guy is a happening dude...lotsa chicks I bet...
That's what bowties are for.
Harry bennett, Henry Ford's Chief of Security, always wore bowties for just such a reason. No one could grab it like a regular tie.
I think you are going to have a long sleep.
I had a guy jump 3 feet sideways as I approached him in the grocery store. St. Patrick’s Day, 2020. We were still 30 feet apart, but he was freaked out by my unmasked face and my Celtic garb.
Lots of politicians need a “necktie” ...
