“It’s 10 degrees or colder down by Boulder Dam today”, so happy birthday to a genius.

SCTV did a wonderful spoof of a K-tel commercial (remember those?): “Gordon Lightfoot sings every song ever written!” Then they rattled off dozens of songs — pop tunes, carols, opera, hymns, jump-rope ditties — with Lightfoot’s distinctive voice droning snippets as the titles scrolled by in Starwars fashion. The 3,000-CD set was offered at the low, low price of $39.95 in five easy payments of $7.99 — or something like that.

I heard a musician sing “The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald” in the Chippewa language but I only understood one word.

You are way off, the carpenter and plumber is the guy who helped build my house. Much more talented than Gordon. Although I like Gordon.

Love Mr. Lightfoot. The Wreck of Edmund Fitzgerald and Sundown are on my lake dock playlist every time we have a relaxing weekend.

When he introduced “The Wreck...” about ten years ago at a concert, he said: “It was nominated for a grammy award.” Much applause. “It lost.” Boos all around. “To Barry Manilow.” Much laughter. Long pause. “I Write the Songs.” The audience roared.
