That is some good customer service.
The other times that I have heard this happen, the dealer tells the customer to call their insurance company.

The shop totaled his expensive status symbol car?

Wow, the therapy will be long and difficult but eventually with time and patience I'm sure he'll learn to cope, though the pain will always be there, at least a little.

Wait, Tesla is replacing it with an identical brand new car? Hmmm. So this is news because ...?

Actually this story is a great ad for Tesla & the Tesla Service Center. The employee (former employee?) and by extension the Tesla Service Center was responsible for “totaling” the car. Tesla stepped up with a replacement without much m ore than a phone call, according to the story.
I would be willing to bet golf tees against tennis balls that Ford, GM or Chrysler or what the hell ever they are now would do the same without Jeff going to court.

How about: “Your warranty has expired”?

Now THOSE are four words to dread!

“I would respond with a few words of my own....”You owe me a new car”.”

A new cloned Tesla was on the way as the story was written.

Why is this news? The repair center admitted fault and replaced the vehicle. End of story.

And reading comprehension as evidenced by keyboard jockeys here,

“Your battery is kaput.”

"Now, go buy a new car."

The fact it was a Tesla has nothing to do with the story other than EVs get totaled in wrecks more often than ICE cars. That’s due to the battery, which is easy to ruin in collisions that hit the side of the car. Dealers have coverage for the eventuality. Anyone who finances any car should have gap insurance until they don’t owe more than the car is worth.

I’ll have to ask my agent whether EVs are more expensive to insure due to the ease of totaling them.

That is what I expected the four words to be.

Or, “car is on fire”

That is some good customer service. The other times that I have heard this happen, the dealer tells the customer to call their insurance company.

I recall one story where the car owner was held liable for the injuries of the other car driver.

“They gave him a new car exactly like he had
You really can’t ask for more than that.”

Agreed, had a similar scenario with a local BMW dealership in 2015.

While they didn’t wreck it, they took back 2 certified pre-owned cars that had issues I discovered after I took possession of them no questions asked.

They ended up giving me a zero miles car at no added cost....all they did was swap all the paperwork. The finance manager said he’d never see that before ever.

You just don’t see customer service like that anymore.

I suspect if it was a domestic vehicle dealership I would’ve had to litigate it to get satisfaction.

“They quit making parts” is another horror statement that I’ve dreaded hearing for my classic 70’s car.
