“It’s “Gen Z” that is failing, or to be more accurate, it’s Gen Z that the education system has failed.”

Well, part of it is the educational system, but I think a bigger part of it is due to smart phones.

When you give a kid a calculator and let them rely on it as a crutch, then you get a kid who can’t do arithmetic in their head. When you give a kid a graphing calculator and let them rely on that, then you get a kid who can’t do trigonometry. When you give a kid a box with more information than all of the world’s libraries combined and let them rely on that, then you get a kid who doesn’t know anything. Smart phones make dumb people.

That's why I was far better read on history than one of my history "teachers" in 1971 who was a leftist shill.

My history teacher in HS was one of the "cool teachers". My attitude about him changed the day in April 1972, when he said to me, "I'm really disappointed in you, for accepting that ROTC scholarship."

LOL, I've had difficulty with authority figures since then. After laughing in his face, I said "you realize I've got the most valuable scholarship in my class". Paid for 100% of my college education at Gonzaga.

My "issues" with authority figures continued in the military, particularly with micro-managing superiors who suffered from rectal-cranial infarction.

I know, I never would have made it to 1st LT in today's military.

One of the best learning experiences for my 3 boys (two sons and grandson) was a stop at Sun Studio in Memphis. Their brief tour was like stepping back in time, at one of the birthplaces of rock and roll.

We all saw the studio, it's still operational, and stood on the exact spot where Elvis, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, and Jerry Lee Lewis recorded their first songs.

A few weeks later, my then 11 YO son heard his drama teacher say, "Elvis wrote the lyrics to Blue Suede Shoes." He corrected the teacher, it was Carl Perkins that wrote it. After a bit of back and forth, they researched it and she discovered he was right.

I take the opportunity on road trips to stop at historical places, you can find them anywhere.

The intelligent people in Gen Z were pushed to the back of the line to make way for people who had no business being in a classroom, much less passed to the next grade.

Compulsory education needs to end. Affirmative Discrimination needs to end. Public education needs to be defunded.

Good to hear. This is why it isn’t all of them though - there’s a lot of parents that see the failures of the public system and are upping their game, making sure their kids get well rounded knowledge.

For those parents that just treat public school as day care, those kids are screwed.

LOL, I made my money in HS by keeping score at a bowling alley. Was usually a couple bucks a shift, until I got in the mix as a scorekeeper for monthly semi-pro tournaments in the Bay Area.

I would make $40-$50 during a weekend, in 1970 dollars, tax-free.

It was different back then. One tournament had so many bowlers they added a midnight shift. One of the bowlers I knew from one of the leagues I kept score for, asked me to keep score for him. I cleared it with my mom, no problem. Would that be possible today? I think my wife would have said hell no.

Yeah, it was different then.

Today’s helicopter parents won’t allow it; won’t even let the kids go outside.

Sure there were bad people out there whe I was a kid. Our parents pushed us out the door with a knives in our pockets.

In many cases they couldn’t adapt.

Many of them had poor impulse control and were dumb as a box of rocks, traits they likely inherited from their parents, resulting in their poor upbringing.

At least one of them, I’m fairly convinced, was the product of maternal drug and alcohol use.

You could tell even at age 16 that they were FFAs— “Future Felons of America”.

Mine too. I was just talking to a friend who homeschools hers. For some reason, one daughter loves physics and reads physics books for pleasure. The public school establishment won’t let her join the volleyball team because she’s not taking classes at her grade level. (she’s above level)

Think of like a copy of a copy of a copy. Eventually it becomes unreadable.

The government education system is remarkably similar. Each generation has been taught to the lowest common denominator. This includes the next generation of educators. Education degrees are adjusted down to meet the qualifications of it’s students.

We are on the fifth or sixth generation of this cycle. God help our grandchildren.

Too many man-children and women-children embraced the idea that they could turn over the education of their children to government idiots and predators despite the clear evidence of how harmful it is.

Logic, intellect, and reason cannot be turned over to government-mommmy from a maternal culture. Man up and move them out.

I would say that on average, K-12 students spend about 6 hours in the classroom. Time spent teaching one subject/topic cannot be spent teaching another.

We now have hours of the school day being spent teaching PC topics. Hours that cannot be used to teach science, math, reading, civics, history.

As far back as I can remember, I have never heard a politician campaign for worse schools. When it comes to schools, it’s always “we need to make them better” and “if only they had more money”. Decades of hearing politicians crying for the betterment of our public schools, and yet we have had instead, a decline in our schools and the graduates they produce.

How can everyone, Democrat and Republican alike, publicly state one thing and yet always have the opposite outcome. It’s almost like this is what the politician want.

As others have said, this is by design.
