They still have newspapers?
God, delivering 75 Sunday editions just about killed me when I was eight years old. Easily two inches thick each. Had to go back and reload my bike several times.
If you can stand the humidity and new residents.... We left in 2011. Sadly nevaDUH wasn’t all we expected but now we’re here and past moving again. I think. ๐
>I may have to buy a Sunday paper soon to act as a catch all for Mrs rktmanโs acrylic art pours and resin
May I make a suggestion. Using a large piece of foam-core, gator-board or even stretched canvas allows the spill-over to build up over time and can result in some nice abstractions. Using plastic tarps allows a light-source behind it to produce transmissive light effects that can, at times look like stained glass with the right lighting. Just be careful to use LED lighting and don’t get them too close to the plastic - they can still get hot if they’re turned up too high.
Back on subject - canceled my subscription 15 or 20 years ago. It was full commie way back then. Last one I ever bought was the early in the morning of November 9, 2016 after staying up all night and finishing a bottle of champagne. Forgot what I paid for it but the headline was priceless !
We're planning to go lakeside in Alabama. Strong conservative area so we'll be in good company!
...makes sense...
Our local daily paper was an independent for decades, then Gannett bought them out and it immediately went downhill.
My town is a small conservative place in Central Indiana. When Gannett took over they moved the offices to Bloomington where all the writers were hired and lived. They pretty much just phoned the stories in, and the editing changed completely. Very conservative before, then BAM, off the chart liberal. We had just re-upped our subscription when the buyout happened, of course it wasn’t announced prior and the next week they went with a US mail delivery instead of home delivery in a box like it was.
We had paid for a daily paper, week one they announced they weren’t doing a Saturday print anymore. I had just paid for 7 days, not 6, and demanded a partial refund. Was told that was not an option, I went off on them in our local Facebook group for our town and then I must have struck a cord because hundreds of people started raising hell over it and they decided to refund anyone who asked a few buck back.
Even the on-line copy changed completely, before they had a local advertisers on it and a few national ones, but they weren’t obnoxious at all. Gannett lined both sides of the article and with ads every sentence almost. You had a hard time navigating it without accidentally clicking a ad, which is what they want, it still counts, and just ruined it.
She’s been doing canvas and some things on mdf. Some interesting things pop up. We use some foam to elevate some of the pieces and she uses push pins on the canvas to elevate them. Messy no matter what.
Back on subject, we learned quickly that any response to our local newspaper results in a supscription. LOL! I sent back one of their offers with a big “NO! STOP SENDING ME OFFERS!” About 3 days later the papers started showing up in the driveway. ๐ตโ๐ซ
Plan ahead, which it appears you have, and bring money. LOL! Most of all, enjoy and as Clint Eastwood says: “Don’t let the old man in.”
Local liberal rags are mostly online. They want you to pay to see “print” edition.
My wife does that with one, i just raid the Disqus available excerpts to enrage liberals.
I think it was during the 90s that print newspapers were considered to be great investments due to the consolidations taking place in cities where there had been multiple competing newspapers.
I know the Dallas Morning news built a huge new printing plant with expensive machinery about that time.
But then, along came the internet with lots of free news outlets. And cable. Suddenly newspapers became the buggywhips of the modern world. Simply not needed anymore for much of the public.
Sometimes he sneaks in when I'm not home!
Thanks!
