That makes much more sense. ;)
There were very few gun owners in the big cities in Oz before the restrictions, so there was no resistance from a majority of Aussies to the new gun laws put in place about 25years ago. Ironically, these were put in place by one of our most conservative Prime Ministers, John Howard after a massacre happened in Tasmania when 35 people were shot dead and another 23 shot https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Port_Arthur_massacre_(Australia) For one reason there was little resistance, is we do not have all the violent crime that you have in America in the cities. So mainly guns were owned by rural people, especially by ranchers, farmers, hunters, etc. When they put in the restrictions, it was mainly about registration, which of course many Americans oppose.
Most farmers, ranchers and hunters still have their guns. We have a small party that has few members elected that try to represent the gun owners called the "Shooters, Fishers and Farmers". Unlike the USA, most Aussies respect their governments (they shouldn't), unlike in the USA where you do not respect your government and I wouldn't either. If I lived in the USA, I would want to have a lot of guns too!
Clueless Joe losing Agahanistan has nothing to do with the cowardice shown by The Aussies everyday in their own towns and cities.
I work for a major Corporation that has several branches in Australia - we are shocked by how quickly they bowed down to anything thrown at them by their government.
Well you don’t seem to understand the system here. It is not the Federal Government, it is some of the leftist states, just like you have mandates and idiotic laws in California and New York.(Granted, the Federal Government has locked down the country border, which I do not agree with). In those states, your citizens don’t mean to mind about bowing down to their governments. Cuomo in New York killed how many thousands of people in New York by forcing those with Covid into nursing homes. The New Yorkers went along with it.I could go on and on with what is going on in California, Oregon, etc. and for the most part, Americans don’t say boo. Americans talk big about guns and cowardice in Oz, but I don’t see any difference with the mob in the USA.
Are Americans marching and protesting and supporting the protesters on January 6th and the ridiculous sentences they are receiving by leftist judges? Americans are as big cowards as Aussies. As they say in Texas, Americans are wearing a big hat with no cows.
It’s actually big hat, no cattle.
Like you and Naturalman I suffer under a leftist premier but out in WA (the state that is bigger than Texas and Alaska combined). It is sad to see so many of our fellow freepers believe all the cap they have been fed.
Yes many here are way too trusting of government but we have never had the level of government abuse our American brethren have faced so there is still a decent level of trust given.
The abuse here have come from the premiers (governors) not the federal government.
We are effectively America under the Articles of Confederation instead of the Constitution.
I have to deal with McGowan and other Aussie freepers with Andrews, but this is better than Cuomo and Newsom.
We have a great love for America, but would like our friends to treat our country respectfully. We are happy to clear up misconceptions, all you have to do is ask.
Is it Minister of Parliament or Member of Parliament?
‘’Member’’. Sorry I was incorrect.
