I know one thing....my AR does not like steel jacket....using tulammo .223 resulted in 2 casing jams. Brass runs through it without incident.

I suspect the AK has generally looser tolerances.

Also with the AKs the quality depends on country of manufacture. China being at the bottom or worst quality....figures

Cartridge case design contributes, also. The .223/5.56 case isn't tapered much (if at all), and was probably designed with brass cases in mind. The 7.62x39 case has a distinct taper (like the .303 British), to promote reliable feeding & extraction, and may have been designed for steel cased ammo.

True - I've seen canted gas blocks, loose barrels, you name it, on rifles turned out by foreign factories that also produced military AKs. The only AK that I ever owned that didn't have obvious QC issues was a Russian Saiga (which I sold last year, because I really never used it)...

Except now that Biden has banned the import of Russian ammo. I guess if he hasn't banned other (old) communist country ammo importation, it's probably OK, but if the ammo is old, it could have corrosive primers.

Glad I am not the only one who thought this.

I will take an AK over an AR any day.
