I got the Norinco version just before George Brush the First cut them off. Has been stellar ever since.
Never owned one but the idea of "sourced" ammo always kept me at bay.
With the numerous ammo shortages this past few years since the big obama era govt. buying it all up. Having a weapon using the worldwide use round like the 7.62x39 makes sense as there are so many countries stocking and mfg the ammo. A tyrannical admin dead set on ammo control could never contain access to that ammo.
Nonetheless a guy located in the right parts of the country can almost always find a native source, as long as he has been careful, thorough, and forward-thinking.
Bad things happen though. Reckon they'll plenty worse.

And there’s that
With $50 worth of aftermarket parts my WASR is reliable to a fault. And it’s more than accurate enough to put something down at 150 yards.

It is cheap, and reliable. For the money it is as good as you can get, and easy to produce. I could name several that I think are better, including our own m16, but 16 likes to be pretty clean. the AK’s tolerances will digest more neglect. Most of the AK’s I’ve ever fired were pretty sorely lacking in the accuracy department, but that isn’t a big disadvantage for what they are made for. High capacity and reliable function produce area contamination, and that is what they are made for.
From what I’ve seen of the Taliban’s AKs, they’re Polish and Romanian. Maybe the occassional Bulgarian Krink.

The chimp is the only one there with sense to shoot the commissar

Well, it will take abuse but its accuracy isn’t stellar. Its about half as accurate as my AK 74.
They are indeed a lot of fun to shoot.
Most street fighting is pretty close range, 300 yards or so. The AK is good for that. Also the 7.62 is a good round.
Agreed, the 7.62 is superior to the 5.56.
The AK is an example of one those “they got it right the first time”.
I’m no expert by any stretch but what I’ve heard the AR is more accurate but may be a little more seceptable to dirt, mud etc.
The AK will function under those types of conditions, keeps on shooting but lacks the accuracy of the AR.
I’m sure some here will disagree with some of this.
IIRC, a few years back, LuckyGunner was running an ammunition test, using several identical ARs from a major American manufacturer. A couple of the ARs were exhibiting subpar accuracy - an examination showed the rifles left the factory with barrel nuts that were basically just hand tight. Workmanship (as well as the quality of the components, the ammunition used, and the basic design) influences accuracy; firearms produced in communist countries may often come up short in multiple respects...
