A broken clock is right twice a day. Besides given the fake “Trump Russia” stuff they were pushing then they may have felt the need to publish it. They backed off any additional stores comparing Putin to Soviet leaders after that though, as it could actually expose what was happening between the Democrats and the Russians (Russia helping Democrats, while providing cover by continuing to game the ‘Trump Russia’ storyline).
And yet they never have anything bad to say about Mao or his regime which still exists today, even though it killed about triple the number as Stalin’s. So it’s not the murders that bother the Left.

Putin thinks Stalin was a great leader and that the fall of the USSR was a catastrophe. Just because Putin mouths some things we do doesn’t mean he’s an American style conservative. Putin to this day funds Communist groups across the planet and is the ally of communist nations.

Not true- the left still takes money from Russia. Check out the Clinton’s speaking engagements, and their acceptance, through Orbis’ Chris Steele and Fusion GPS, of information from Russian associates of Putin. And leftist pipeline protests in the US have been funded in part by Russia.
Russia, China, Cuba, North Korea, and Iran have been quite good at disinformation and sowing cyberconfusion.
